As a Barista for Karmic Grind you will hustle with a smile, engage in meaningful moments of kindness as you prepare and serve hot and cold beverages, including various types of coffee and tea. We have a fantastic, curated retail section that we ask our team to get to know, love and promote.
Barista responsibilities include welcoming guests, cheerful greetings, educating customers on our exceptional coffee menu, making recommendations based on their preferences, up-selling special items and taking orders. You participate in weekly and daily tasks like sending inventory for orders to the owners and receiving and putting away items on down time.
To be successful in this role, you should have customer service skills, patience, curiosity, humility, willingness, be quick thinking and able to work swiftly within a very efficient team. You should be able to work various shifts; weekday afternoons and weekends.
We provide shadow shifts and coffee training.
Note: this position’s compensation includes salary and tips. Ultimately, you’ll ensure an excellent community and coffee drinking experience for our guests.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers as they enter
- Give customers drink menus and answer their questions regarding ingredients
- Take orders while paying attention to details (e.g. preferences of coffee blend, dairy and sugar ratios)
- Prepare beverages following recipes
- Serve beverages and prepared food, like cookies, pastries and muffins
- Receive and process payments (cash and credit cards)
- Keep the bar area and equipment clean and cared for
- Maintain stock of retail items
- Receive and put away stock
- Keep downstairs stock room organized
- Comply with health and safety regulations
- Communicate customer feedback to managers and recommend new menu items
- Keep customer area
Skills
- Excellent communication skills and clean personal presentation
- Previous work experience as a Barista or Waiter/Waitress is a bonus
- Care for details
- Flexibility to work various shifts
- Basic math
- Ability to gauge customers’ preferences
- High school diploma; relevant training is a plus
- Must have transportation
