What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Technician position at Kaukauna Utilities?
Kaukauna Utilities is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Mechanical Technician. This is a full-time, non-exempt position that will function under the direction of the Maintenance Superintendent.
This is skilled work in the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of power plant machinery and associated equipment. Work performed is preventative and corrective in nature involving mechanical and electrical devices associated with improvements in power plant design and operations. Work may include the on-site operation of equipment to meet maintenance objectives or system needs.
Essential Functions
- Install, test, troubleshoot, and maintain various types of motors, control pumps, electrical and mechanical valves, hydraulic systems, water turbines, and generators.
- Perform rack raking, general housekeeping of structures, dam maintenance, and tainter gate operations.
- Operate digger derricks, loaders/backhoes and other material handling equipment.
- Perform routine lubrication and other services to equipment and machinery as required.
- Inspect generating facilities. Prepare and maintain necessary records and reports.
- Any other utility work as required.
Required Education & Experience
- Satisfactory completion of a mechanical technician apprenticeship program or equivalent.
- Must be a certified welder or have the ability to become certified within one year.
- Eight years of related experience; or equivalent combination of training, experience, knowledge, abilities, and skills of the millwright trade.
- Considerable knowledge and ability to use and apply standard practices, methods, tools and equipment in order to maintain operation of the generation facilities.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the millwright trade.
- Knowledge and ability to use and apply standard practices, methods, tools, and materials of metal fabricating and welding.
- Ability to comprehend mechanical drawings.
- Ability and desire to learn the maintenance and repair of gas turbine and diesel engine generators, hydro turbines, and apply that learning to actual maintenance and repair work.
- Must be certified in First Aid/CPR or have such within 90 days of start date.
- Must maintain a current State of Wisconsin Class ABCD commercial driver's license or have the ability to obtain one in an approved timeframe.
