POSITION: Park/Marina Caretaker
LOCATION: Baraga, Ojibwa Campground and Recreation Area
WAGE: $17.43/hr
STATUS: Full-time, Non-exempt

POSITION SUMMARY: Helps plan and establish park procedures for the KBIC recreation areas. Maintains grounds and equipment, keeps records of activities and incidents, and recommends improvements needed. Snow plowing. Limited living quarters will be provided year round, includes the following utilities: Heat/Electric/Water/Sewer.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
1. High School Diploma, GED, or Certificate of Completion is preferred.
2. One-year general maintenance and grounds experience is required.
3. Must be bonded or bondable.
4. Must possess a valid, unrestricted Michigan Driver’s License, have a good driving record, and be able to operate fleet vehicles ** Must sign the KBIC Driving Record Check Form.
5. Must be able to obtain a satisfactory clearance in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act Background Investigations Policy.
6. Able to operate snow plows and plow trucks (including manual transmission).
7. Must be willing to work flexible hours, which includes evenings and weekends.
8. Must be knowledgeable about general repairs and daily maintenance of small equipment, vacuums, kitchen appliances and laundry equipment.
9. Needs some background on painting, carpentry, plumbing, air-conditioning, heating, grounds keeping and general maintenance.
10. Possess excellent communication skills (verbal, written) and a “customer oriented” attitude.
11. Ability to work well in both a team environment and independently.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Provides assistance for events and activities held at the Ojibwa Recreation area.
· Provides for and maintains a peaceful, safe, hazard free environment to designated recreation areas.
· Maintains equipment, grounds, and provides a neat and pleasant appearance to the Ojibwa Park, Marina and surrounding areas. Responsibilities include: Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, General Maintenance, Grounds keeping, Janitorial/Cleaning, Painting, and Garbage Pick-Up.
· Report disruptive/aggressive individuals to proper authorities.
· Provides adequate signs in areas where & when needed.
· Required to keep a Daily Activities Log.
· Maintains an accurate record of campsite and dock rentals, and collects fees.
· Must perform daily rounds and inspection of Ojibwa Park, Marina and surrounding area. Maintains a “Customer Service Oriented Attitude.”
· Enforce safety issues with customers and visitors.
· Must respond and assist customers and visitors with emergency situations and contact proper authorities. Perform maintenance to remedy safety/hazardous situations and conditions.
· Escort and assist visitors with directions and questions.
· Assist injured individuals until appropriate professionals arrive.
· Initiate and assure of evacuation in emergencies. Assist handicapped or incapacitated individuals with evacuation.
· Record and complete written reports. Log entries on daily activities and occurrences. Gather accurate information and descriptions of individuals committing alleged criminal activities or suspicious activities. Document actions or steps taken to remedy situation.
· Required to attend the Parks and Recreation Committee meetings and work in cooperation to provide recommendations to the Tribal Council.
· During the off season, individual is required to snow plow driveways and perform light shoveling for the Senior Citizen and Handicapped Individuals on designated Tribal Snow Removal list (Will receive assistance from Public Works Department/Staff during heavy snow events and as required). Assist the Public Works Department in other areas including, but not limited to, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting, heating, grounds keeping, and general maintenance.
· Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be able to lift up to 75lbs unassisted.
2. Must be able to tolerate varying level of noise, dust, and/or smoke.
3. Employee must pass a pre-employment background check, physical, and drug screen.
