Join a diverse team of talented and inspired engineers and analysts to develop US Army Air and Missile Defense systems in Huntsville, Alabama.
The Technical Writer position supports multiple project offices within Program Executive Office (PEO) Missile and Space (M&S) performing technical writing and/or technical communications. Duties include writing and editing technical reports, requirements documentation, white papers, and other supporting documents to communicate complex and technical information. The candidate will develop, gather, and disseminate technical information among customers, developers, and test support personnel. The candidate must demonstrate ability to produce high-quality documentation that is appropriate for its intended audience, meets applicable standards, and is easy to understand. In addition to technical writing, the candidate will assist with mission critical data and documentation transfers between separate secured networks.
Ability to obtain Secret clearance is required.
Position Type: This is a full time, contractor site position in Huntsville, AL.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review, edit, and proofread materials written by others, provides suggested revision
- Develop, review, and edit all documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with editorial and government specifications, and adherence to standards for quality, format, style, graphics, and technical accuracy
- Gather and research technical information, including engineering and development information, for use in documentation activities
- Must be a self-starter and capable of working with internal teams and customers on product and documentation requirements
- Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures
- Exercise safe, mature, discretionary handling of sensitive data and documentation
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree Technical Writing, English, or Journalism
- 4 years of experience with technical writing and/or editing
- Experience preparing detailed documentation for complex technical projects in conformance with strict product preparation guidelines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences or facilitate group discussions and develop accurate written materials to clearly and concisely communicate information
- Ability to operate in a dynamic environment and take on numerous roles as part of the daily program operations
- Ability to build solid relationships with team members, leadership, and customers
- Candidate must be a US Citizen
- Possess (and be able to maintain) a Secret Clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with Air and Missile Defense (AMD) or Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and/or government grant writing desired
