Who We Are
The USC Mark and Mary Stevens Neuroimaging and Informatics Institute (INI) tackles some of the biggest challenges facing the field of neuroscience. We contribute to large-scale data sharing efforts in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, and relentlessly search for biomarkers of multiple brain diseases and neurodegenerative disorders. The INI comprises four centers: the Laboratory of Neuro Imaging (LONI), the Imaging Genetics Center (IGC), the Center for Image Acquisition (CIA), and the Center for Integrative Connectomics (CIC).
What We Do
The INI aims to enhance discovery through the application of imaging and information technologies in the study of the brain. The Institute is dedicated to excellence in data acquisition, analysis, stewardship and computational innovation for the purpose of biomedical research. Directed by Provost Professor Arthur W. Toga, the institute is housed within the Stevens Hall of Neuroimaging, a dedicated, custom-built facility at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.
The Opportunity
The INI is seeking a UX Professional to help design data intensive web applications that are inviting, intuitive, interactive and able to present complex information with simplicity and elegance. You will guide the user experience from research to design to implementation working with a team of talented visual designers, developers and scientists. The ideal candidate will have worked in-house designing innovative solutions that incorporate a holistic approach and deliver extraordinary user experiences to a wide variety of users. This is a one-year fixed-term position with the possibility of long-term extension.
Qualifications
• Minimum of two years of work experience as an information architect, interaction designer, or user experience designer.
• Solid understanding of user-centered information and interaction design principles and best practices.
• Ability to capture requirements via stakeholders and domain research.
• Ability to create information architecture diagrams, user experience workflow diagrams, wireframes, proof-of-concepts, and interactive prototypes.
• Ability to communicate design approaches to different audiences including non-designers.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Online portfolio required.
• Experience designing complex data visualization UIs a plus.
• Solid grasp of responsive web design principles and technologies a plus.
• Degree in interaction design, information architecture, or equivalent preferred but not required
Responsibilities
• Employ a holistic, strategic and creative approach to create user-centric experiences that support the behaviors, needs and goals of our users as determined through data-driven research and usability testing.
• Perform in-depth analysis of how our users think and behave in pursuing their goals.
• Brainstorm, storyboard, wireframe and prototype to support a variety of experiences.
• Collaborate with management, scientists, designers and developers to ensure users’ needs are met and expectations exceeded.
