What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grinder/Finisher position at Kendell Doors and Hardware?
Position Summary:
Perform welding activities or a combination of welding and finishing activities to complete final fabrication and assembly of hollow metal frames. Use hand-welding equipment to weld or join metal components and grinding equipment to finish. Perform other general shop tasks.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Perform welding/fabricating activities efficiently and accurately:
· Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits; required: use of eye/ear protection, masks; compliance with OSHA standards, organization safety standards, and dress code.
· Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly to obtain required configurations or positions for welding, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, clamps, tape measures and rulers. Cut/alter material components as needed.
· Prepare, set up, and operate necessary tools and equipment for welding job such as shielded metal arc, gas metal arc or other welding equipment common to the trade.
· Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify Shop Lead or Production Control Manager
· Perform finishing tasks such as grinding, painting, etc.
· Examine finished product and compare to order specifications.
2. Perform general shop tasks:
· Organize and put away incoming product/materials
· Stage outgoing product for pick-up or delivery
· Assist loading/unloading trucks and moving of material/product, may require use of forklift
· Notify parties regarding status of received product in warehouse and ensure necessary paperwork is collected or distributed to front office staff
· Maintain cleanliness of workspace and assist with general shop maintenance
· Record and place FSC material in designated area, following company FSC procedures
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
3. Participate in all shop meetings
4. Alter hollow metal doors/wood doors as required, install lite kits
5. Make local deliveries
6. Perform on-site labor/service
7. Assist with Year End Inventory
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent with previous welding experience
- Knowledge of welding machines and tools, including their uses, repair, and maintenance
- Basic communication and comprehension skills
- Application of basic math and geometry
- Ability to follow written, visual (drawings or images), and verbal instructions and work independently
Physical Abilities: Perform repeated physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body,
