Kentucky Derby Festival Event Manager Job Description
A qualified candidate is highly motivated, detail-oriented, and has considerable organization skills. The individual should be very adept at multi-tasking. Each event assigned will require diligent adherence to budgets while also working with established and involved committees. The candidate should also possess strong networking skills and feel comfortable operating in medium to large groups/meetings.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the planning and production of multiple assigned Derby Festival events
- Produce events to ensure maximum revenue potential and minimize the cost of production
- Participate in the preparation of financial statements and budgets for assigned events
- Prepare event planning guides and status reports
- Order and contract for all service and equipment needed in conjunction with the Director of Events
- Coordinate and lead event committee meetings made up of internal staff and external board members and volunteers
- Determine volunteer needs and develop committee assignments for multiple events
- Coordinate with the sponsorship team to achieve goals and objectives identified by event sponsors
- Recommend additional revenue opportunities through marketable events and marketing consulting items
- Assist in publicizing Festival events
- Any assignments designated by the President or Director of Events
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proven experience in producing events
- Ability to maintain a fast pace while working long hours in a stressful environment for weeks at a time
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Exceptional communication skills
- Ability to drive a 24’ box truck
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom
- Ability to lift or move 50 pounds
Education/Experience
- Associate or Bachelor's (Preferred)
- Event Management: 3 years (Preferred)

- Starting salary range begins at $35,000 based on experience
