Job Description
Position Title: EC Teacher (10-Month)
Reports to: Sr. Director of Federal Programs
The Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher provides special education services to students who have been found under any of the 14 disability categories. The EC teacher is responsible for the collection and use of data to develop students’ IEPs and for monitoring students’ progress toward their IEP goals. The EC Teacher is also responsible for developing lesson plans, adapting materials, and designing activities to assist identified students in developing appropriate academic, behavioral, and social skills. The EC Teacher is responsible for maintaining compliance with EC documentation in accordance with state and federal guidelines.

Job Qualification
Current NC License in General Curriculum Special Education at a minimum. Experience providing instruction in the
Resource and Inclusion settings, developing Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans, supporting students with Autism, and providing Specially Designed instruction preferred.
This position involves direct special education instruction to identified students.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Developing, writing, and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in classroom settings that are appropriate to address the needs of identified scholars.
- Developing lesson plans, materials, and activities that assist students with disabilities in learning appropriate academic, behavioral, and social skills to meet appropriate educational goals.
- Monitoring students’ progress and maintaining EC records in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
- Using diagnostic information obtained from tests and other assessment procedures to update IEPs as needed.
- Employing teaching and motivational methods that meet individual student needs, including adapting or developing materials and presentations to assist in this effort.
- Facilitating and monitoring productive student behavior, teaching behavioral strategies, and maintaining discipline in the classroom;
- Communicating with parents, including providing ongoing written reports regarding students’ educational progress.
- Serving as a case manager for assigned students, including holding consultations with caregivers, school support professionals, and parents to understand and meet student needs.
- Maintaining student records in accordance with North Carolina’s Procedures Governing Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities, and ensuring compliance with state and federal education statutes.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Function
- Physical Requirements: The successful candidate must be able to use classroom tools and equipment such as computers, photocopiers, and classroom display screens.
- Teachers must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, as well as move classroom objects.
- Teachers must be able to stand for much of the day.
- Teachers must be able to be both prompt and present, eager to support and motivate Kestrel Heights scholars and other educators every day.
- Computer and Data Skills: This position requires the ability to compare readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data. The position also requires knowledge of computers and classroom tools and strategies.
- Interpersonal Communication Skills: The successful candidate must be able to speak and signal people to convey or exchange information, including giving and receiving instructions, assignments, and/or directions from superiors. The teacher must have the ability to read and interpret correspondence, reports, and handbooks, as well as fill in required forms, and prepare correspondence, reports, and instructional materials. The position requires the ability to apply logical thinking to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. The position also requires the ability to monitor the safety of students.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $7.25 - $26.36 per hour
