What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laundry Technician position at Keswick Multi-Care Center?
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Collection: Collects residents' soiled personal clothing from Baker residents' rooms; collects long-term care residents personal clothing from nursing units. Collects house linens from nursing units and dining rooms to avoid soiled linen buildup. Transports laundry containers to Laundry.
- Washing Linen: Sorts and weighs laundry. Loads soiled linen into washers. Loads clean, wet linens into dryers. Operates commercial washing machines and dryers.
- Finishing: Folds clean, dry linen. Makes up carts of linens for delivery.
- Personal Clothing: Washes, dries and folds personal clothing. Presses personal clothing as needed. Adds name labels to new personal items.
- Distribution: Returns clean linens and personal items to nursing units and resident/patient rooms to avoid clean linen shortages. Delivers incontinent products to nursing units, Adult Day and resident/patient rooms.
- Maintenance: Maintains laundry areas in a neat, orderly and safe manner. Maintains equipment.
7. Performs other duties as assigned, including checking stock and notifying supervisor of supply needs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS: Laundry procedures and sanitation. Use of detergents, fabric softeners, starches and other laundry supplies. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language. Working harmoniously with staff and others. Following written and verbal instructions. Operating laundry equipment. Dealing with residents who may be confused, agitated or uncooperative.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires grammar school education; High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
WORK ORIENTATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Six months experience in a healthcare facility preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a commercial laundry setting and in a healthcare setting. Requires continuous walking, standing, balancing, bending and stooping throughout the day. Requires physical effort including the need to lift or carry up to 75 pounds and push or pull a cart weighing up to 75 pounds; adheres to established protocol for lifting objects. Constant reaching with the hands or arms, and use of hands to finger, handle or feel. Requires ability to talk, hear and smell. Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
May be required to work weekends, holidays, evenings and/or nights, and during emergent situations such as extreme weather conditions or disasters.
Constant exposure to heat and high noise levels and to body fluids, infectious waste, or blood borne disease requiring standard precautions. Employees will be instructed in the proper use of personal protective equipment and specific protocol if assigned duties where they may be at risk.
