What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Programmer position at Keter North America?

Summary:

The CNC Programmer position requires someone who is detail oriented with a sense of urgency in keeping pace with a fast-paced production environment while adhering to all safety requirements. The CNC Programmer will be responsible for programming the CNC machines for both new products as well as changes to existing products. They will understand the CNC machines, so they are able to change out spoil boards and make changes to programming as needed. In this position this individual will work closely with the Design Engineer in creating programming for new products as well as changes to existing programming. In addition, this position will also be responsible for running daily paperwork for the machining department. The CNC Programmer should have 2D CAD background to help with changes within the programs as needed. The CNC Programmer will ensure production procedures are carried out smoothly and will maximize efficiencies of machines at all times.


Essential Functions

  • Use of Visual CAD/CAM (by Mecsoft)
  • Nest parts efficiently to maximize material usage (minimize material waste)
  • Analyze and review CAD files
  • Make calculations to determine where materials should be cut
  • Define the best sequence for machining steps
  • Decide tools, speeds, feeds and fixtures to be used
  • Generate program code using computer aided manufacturing (CAM) software to capture all these decisions.
  • Runs program testing
  • Conducts quality testing and corrects/improves program code to create increased efficiency, quality and safety
  • Must be able to write complex CNC programs that execute successfully, efficiently and safely
  • Make a variety of calculations in order to determine where material should be cut
  • Determine the correct and most efficient tool path
  • Decide which cutting tools and speeds are appropriate, considering the design specification, material and range of tools that could be used
  • Be able to analyze the behavior of code to diagnose a problem and find the underlying cause and correct it
  • Produce components for prototypes as well as parts for new product development
  • Uses various measuring and inspection tools and equipment for component inspection to verify compliance/accuracy.
  • Replace spoil boards as needed
  • Must be able to create all required CNC programs to be used in the Machine Shop
  • Maintain a master CNC program directory, through proper file management techniques to insure the integrity of the CNC programs.
  • Ability to create and work with Visual CAD/CAM
  • Knowledge/Use of many hand/power tools (Sawzall, angle grinder, drill, impact etc).
  • Performs Machine set ups and trials for development projects
  • Analytical ability to solve shop problems.
  • Ability to successfully and safely operate table routers and various saws within the Machining Department.
  • Assists in the design of jigs, tools, fixtures and special equipment for CNC applications and assembly
  • Support Machining daily production
  • Ability to work well with Design Engineering on the creation of new products or product improvements
  • Will be responsible for daily shop tickets – releasing, printing, assigning etc.
  • Will review 2D CAD drawings for new products and changes to existing products – working closely with the Design Engineer
  • Will be responsible for set up and first run of all proto types for new product designs
  • Ability to distinguish colors to ensure correct components are selected for the machining process
  • Ability to work safely following all safety rules and regulations

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to read and communicate in English to follow and understand work instructions
  • Ability to use simple math using addition, subtraction, division, multiplication and understanding percentages and fractions.
  • Must be able to read a ruler and/or tape measure along with a dial caliper
  • Great attention to detail
  • Sense of urgency to meet production standards
  • Ability to strictly adhere to all safety standards
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment when necessary
  • Ability to recognize and point out defects
  • Good Attendance
  • Ability to work independently as well as with others
  • Ability to work 10-hour shifts and overtime as required
  • Reliable transportation to arrive at work on a daily basis


Educational and Experience Requirements

  • 3 years of CNC programming experience and/or a Technical Degree
  • 1 year experience with any CAM Software
  • Sound knowledge of CNC machines and machine shop practices
  • Good Knowledge of machining tools
  • Experience working with CNC Programming software
  • Ability to follow direction and work without constant direct supervision while achieving quality and production standards
