On-Call Museum Education Specialist (Part-Time)

Position Overview
The KidZone Children’s Museum is seeking an energetic, flexible, and dependable On-Call Museum Educator & Operations Assistant to support daily museum operations, educational programming, and visitor experience. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children and families, thrives in a dynamic environment, and is comfortable stepping into different roles as needed.
On-call staff are scheduled as coverage is needed for school programs, special events, field trips, weekends, holidays, and staff absences.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include a combination of the following, depending on scheduling needs:
Visitor Experience & Front Desk
- Maybe trained to cover Manager on Duty role.
- Welcome visitors and create a warm, engaging environment for families
- Assist with admissions, memberships, and basic retail
- Answer visitor questions and support positive guest experiences
Education & Programs
- Facilitate hands-on exhibits, art/science activities, and educational programs
- Engage children through play-based learning and inquiry
Events & Rentals
- Support birthday parties, community events, and special programs
- Assist with room setup, breakdown, and guest flow during events
- Help with event preparation with other staff members.
General Support
- Step in to support other staff as needed
- Follow museum policies and safety procedures
- Communicate clearly with staff and supervisors regarding scheduling and needs
Qualifications
- Experience working with young children, families, or the public (museum, school, childcare, camp, or customer service experience preferred)
- Friendly, patient, and engaging demeanor
- Flexible availability, including weekends and occasional holidays
- Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Reliable and punctual
- Experience with early learning art and science and child development
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the museum for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
- Comfortable sitting on the floor and interacting at child level
