Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. The hours will be discussed upon hire.
Summary:
The receptionist sets the tone for the patient visit by greeting and welcoming them into the office, displaying a calm and friendly attitude. They coordinate the patient flow throughout the visit, always putting the needs of the patient first. In addition, they ensure the needs of the patient were met during the visit.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for patient check-in including guidance/completion with intake forms, obtaining copies of insurance cards and photo ID, scanning, accurately inputting data into EHR, collecting payment as appropriate, arriving patient, etc.
- Responsible for patient check-out including scheduling follow-up appointments, scheduling appointments including referrals as needed, collecting payment as appropriate, etc.
- Make preparation for following daily/weekly/monthly business activities with respect to patients, schedules, scanning medical records, retrieve medical records from EPIC, mail new patient paperwork, etc.
- Responsible for balancing cash drawer and daily journal.
- When necessary, inform patients regarding health insurance policies and benefits and discreetly and tactfully discuss financial options.
- Answer all incoming phone lines and direct calls appropriately.
- Conduct outbound telephone calls as necessary, including appointment reminder calls.
- Complete medical record requests timely and accurately.
- Provide patient portal instructions and login information.
· Perform other office duties as assigned, including keeping work area clean and safe.
Required Education and Experience
· To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
· High school diploma or education degree in general medical office practices or 1-2 years related experience or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
· General knowledge of computer operation. Must be able to enter data into patient’s chart accurately. Office scheduling program and electronic health record experience preferred.
· Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondences. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients, customers, and other employees of the organization. Ability to be an effective communicator using the telephone
· Ability to apply common sense to understanding and to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This job operates in a professional medical office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear and see. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
