Job Description

Role Summary:

This position will be conducting wildlife guided commercial hunts and providing quality hunts and outdoor experiences to both SGHS members and guests. When not guiding, this position will support habitat management and feeding programs, help maintain infrastructure, and perform duties as may be necessary to make the hunting experience on King Ranch a unique and exclusive experience.

What To Expect In The Role

  • Helps in collection and analyzing of survey, harvest, and other data to aid in establishment of quotas and other management practices to ensure the stewardship and conservation of quality wildlife populations (both game and non-game) on King ranch.
  • Understand and implement effective hunting strategies. Prepares beforehand (scouting, cameras, etc.) to ensure all stakeholders have a high probability of success and a memorable outdoor experience.
  • Helps oversee King Ranch wildlife operations compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws related to regulations governing hunting and game harvest. This also includes ensuring hunter compliance with King Ranch quota’s, rules, established seasons, and operational plans.
  • Abides by ethical harvest practices and serves as a steward of wildlife and all natural resources, including the reporting of any potentially detrimental resource or safety issue on King Ranch property.
  • Works with assigned SGHS members or commercial clients to ensure they are fully prepared and have the necessary equipment, clothing, etc. at least 5 days prior to the hunt.
  • Help organize and take part in surveys on a timely basis as per protocol and requirements and as assigned.
  • Provide input on King Ranch policies, rules, management, quotas, etc., especially as they impact our stakeholders.
  • Maintain a clean and pristine work environment. Pick up all debris and trash.
  • Learn the roads, boundaries, and lay of the land before venturing afield.
  • Proficiency with firearms and willingness to harvest excess game or feral animals to aid in management.
  • Expert in the safe handling and care of firearms and instruct hunters in the same.
  • Understands the goals and mission of the King Ranch Wildlife Department and presents King Ranch, Inc. in a positive light to both our stockholders and commercial hunting clients.
  • Ensure all hunting packets are complete, and all safety, waivers and other necessary forms are signed prior to the hunt.
  • Properly conduct or oversee field dressing of all game harvested by SGHS members and commercial clients. As appropriate, and as assigned clean game to extent necessary for freezing and/or immediate cooking. Ensure legal storage of all harvested game.
  • Ensure proper and safe handling of harvested game, including the use of gloves and/or other personal protection to minimize chance of disease transmission.

What We Will Be Needing From You

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Range and Wildlife with a minimum of 2 years related experience.
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR (can be done ASAP following hiring)
  • Gain Texas Youth Hunter instructor certification within 2 years of employment.
  • Operate GPS and two-way radios.
  • Score harvested animals and identify a wide range of flora and fauna living on King Ranch.
  • Accurately estimate age and Boone and Crockett score of live bucks.
  • Absolute accountability and responsibility to ensure all release of liability and hunting rule forms are properly executed prior to any hunt.
  • Absolute accountability and responsibility for ensuring both a safe firearm handling environment and a safe hunt for our clients.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations, as well as King Ranch policies and rules, relates to all wildlife operations activities.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing, the ability to be an approved driver for the company and to safely operate vehicles.
  • Must be eligible and have in possession, current State and Federal Hunting Licenses as required for the job.
  • Must possess any certificates, licenses or registrations, as deemed necessary for this position, to be in compliance with any and all local, state, federal or any other type of regulatory agency.
  • Must be a good communicator, articulate, and dress appropriately as a first contact point of King Ranch to our and hunting clients.
