Summary/Objective

Plan, coordinate, manage and direct the delivery of the District’s health programs and services to create a climate of health and well-being throughout KUSD schools and minimize student absences for health reasons. Consult with and assist District leadership with the development and implementation of health policies and procedures to protect, promote and manage the health and safety of students; prepare and maintain detailed medical reports and records; provide support to school leadership regarding health-related issues; provide health consultation and resources to District staff, parents and students; supervise health personnel.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Respond to all internal and external customers, as it relates to the position, in a prompt, efficient, friendly, and patient manner.
  2. Ensure students are provided with access to optimal health and educational services while under the care of the District.
  3. Plan, coordinate, manage and direct the healthcare clinical activities for all school sites to include programs for testing the hearing and vision of all students.
  4. Develop procedures and operational guidelines for school health offices; assist school staff/administration with implementing and evaluating school health programs; assist school staff/administration with establishing and maintaining safe and sanitary conditions within the schools.
  5. Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, county and district school and public health regulations, policies and laws.
  6. Assist principals with supervision of health office personnel to include maintaining consistent standards, providing support with outside agencies, and intervening with parent or student concerns, as needed.
  7. Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records, to include monitoring and recording immunization data per applicable laws and school district policies.
  8. Act as a liaison between physicians, families, and community health care services and agencies to enhance the quality and continuity of health care for all students.
  9. Assume responsibility for the identification and referral of students requiring medical, dental, or psychological care.
  10. Utilize an established nursing process to assess, analyze, plan, implement, record and evaluate all student care.
  11. Instruct, guide and consult with district staff, families and students on a continual basis on health-related matters that affect students; maintain documentation of training.
  12. Work in collaboration with the Special Education Department to ensure the medical needs of special education students are met and the employees who serve these students are properly trained.
  13. Administer first aid and medication in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  14. Implement school policies regarding communicable disease and infection including exclusion and readmission of students.
  15. Monitor chronic illness and other health problems in students by preparing, implementing and evaluating nursing care plans, when appropriate.
  16. Provide for the physical assessment of children on an as-needed basis.
  17. Identify and report suspected child abuse and neglect, and suspected substance abuse and neglect, per applicable laws and school district policies.
  18. Participate in committee meetings and conferences regarding health services and health curriculum; monitor local, state and national trends in healthcare.
  19. Perform administrative and managerial functions relevant to the position.
  20. Maintain knowledge of and adheres to all policies, regulations, and rules.
  21. Perform related duties, as assigned, in a safe and prudent manner.

Supervisory Responsibility

The incumbent will directly supervise the substitute school nurse and co-supervise health attendants, licensed health aides, and school nurses within the District.

 

Work Environment

The incumbent will work on campuses throughout the District.

  1. Constantly communicate with others to exchange information.
  2. Constantly move about to accomplish tasks or move from one worksite to another.
  3. Regularly perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving one’s whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials.
  4. Occasionally remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  5. Occasionally perform work that includes moving objects or students up to 50 pounds.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

At-Will Notice of Employment does not provide a guarantee of a particular schedule of work or a minimum number of days or hours.

This is an exempt, 11-month, 40-hour per week position. This position is eligible for medical benefits. Extended work hours to meet deadlines may occasionally be required.

 

Required Education and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent and two years of nursing experience.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  2. Experience managing the delivery of student health services
  3. Management or supervisory experience in the health field

 

Required Certifications/Licenses

  1. Valid Arizona Registered Nurse license
  2. Healthcare Provider level CPR/BLS (Basic Life Support) and First Aid Certification

 

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain a Fingerprint Clearance Card with an IVP number through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

 

 

Salary : $59,000 - $69,000
