Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Optometric Technician with front desk responsibilities. This is a dual role that requires excellent clinical skills, strong communication abilities, and a passion for providing exceptional patient care. You will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our clinic, from assisting patients in the exam room to managing patient flow at the front desk.
Responsibilities (Optometric Technician):
- Perform pre-testing procedures, including:
- Visual acuity testing
- Auto-refraction
- Tonometry (checking eye pressure)
- Visual field testing
- Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) (if applicable)
- Fundus photography (if applicable)
- Obtain patient history, including medical conditions, medications, and vision complaints.
- Assist the optometrist with patient care, including:
- Explaining procedures and treatments
- Administering eye drops
- Scribing examination findings
- Maintain and sterilize ophthalmic equipment.
- Educate patients on proper contact lens care, if applicable.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
- Stock and maintain exam rooms and supplies.
Responsibilities (Front Desk):
- Greet patients and check them in/out efficiently and courteously.
- Answer phone calls and schedule appointments.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits.
- Collect patient payments and process transactions.
- Maintain patient charts and ensure accuracy of information.
- Manage patient flow and ensure a smooth and efficient patient experience.
- Handle patient inquiries and resolve issues effectively.
- Perform other administrative tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or technical training preferred.
- Previous experience as an Optometric Technician is strongly preferred.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems is a plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
