Lyons Salt Company is hiring a 3rd shift Mechanic. This position will focus on repairs, maintain machinery and mechanical equipment within an establishment using motors, pumps, conveyors, belts fans, air conditioners, etc. Examines mechanical equipment to troubleshoot problems or concerns. Disassembles machines and repairs or replaces worn or broken parts. Adjusts functional parts of mechanical devices as necessary. Compiles schedules of machinery for all underground and process equipment. Cleans and lubricates parts. Inspects completed repairs. Performs all work with adherence to safety procedures and MSHA regulations. Must be task trained on all equipment or machinery used in daily work duties.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Performs, with minimal supervision, tasks of substantial variety or complexity which requires knowledge of mobile and processing techniques, materials, tools, machines and equipment relative to salt mining.
- Works from engineering drawings, rough sketches, manuals or verbal instructions.
- Devises and utilizes non-standard procedures.
- Constructs components and parts to extremely close tolerances which have unusual or non-standard shapes.
- Adheres to safety policies and health regulations.
- Communicates with management regarding any situation that may affect the safety of any employee or other issues that affect production or the quality of our product.
- Inspects and performs daily routine housekeeping as necessary to ensure a clean and safe work area.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting mobile equipment.
- Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting process equipment such as motors, pumps, conveyors, belts, fans, etc.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, hydraulic lifts, pneumatic tools, welding equipment and oxygen acetylene torches.
- Experience with troubleshooting hydraulics, engines, and electrical systems.
- Proven safe work record.
- Good attendance record.
Work Environment
- Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see.
- Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy to heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the course of the workday.
- Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety foot wear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and other protective equipment as required.
