$17.50/ hr
Shift:
Monday- Friday 8am- 4:30pm

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position provides clerical and reception support to a KCR WIC site. Answering phones, scheduling appointments, greeting clients, counseling and providing nutritional education for clients under the direction of the WIC Manager or Site Supervisor. Documenting nutrition services, goals and literature provided in client’s file.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  1. High School Diploma or GED and 2.5 years’ experience in clerical field OR
  2. Associates Degree plus 1 year experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  1. Speaking languages in addition to English is a plus, Spanish preferred
  2. Good public relations, communication, and educational skills needed.
  3. Must have concern for and understanding of low-income people and knowledge of local resources, which benefit the economically disadvantaged.
  4. Ability to work under pressure and time constraints.
  5. Ability to pass Washington State Criminal Background Check.
  6. Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
  7. Current auto liability insurance

DUTIES & RESPONSBILITIES

  1. Report to and accept assignments from the WIC Manager and/or WIC Site Supervisor.
  2. Learn and apply Washington State WIC regulations pertaining to WIC program procedures, policies, and practices, noting revisions during the program year.
  3. Conduct preliminary client interviews for intake services and appointment scheduling.
  4. Make appropriate referrals to other community agencies when necessary.
  5. Provide front desk reception duties to welcome/serve walk-ins
  6. Answer phone calls, communicate effectively and record messages as needed.
  7. Perform clerical duties to include typing, filing, telephone services, appointment scheduling, ordering and WIC benefit issuance.
  8. Ensure accuracy and timely completion and submittal of WIC eligibility determination.
  9. Update community resource list as applicable to WIC families.
  10. Provide Nutrition Education.
  11. Help manage clinic flow with separation of duties and keep on track with appointment schedule.
  12. Maintain WIC lobby to ensure a welcoming, safe, and sanitary environment.
  13. Timely completion and implementation of all Clerk trainings, prior to starting Certifier Training.
  14. Participate in in-services, health fairs, community meetings, and job-related education programs, including a four-day WIC training session in Olympia, WA.
  15. Assist in the development and office organization of nutrition education displays, posters, literature, and other creative projects.
  16. Attend and participate in unit, division, and agency staff meetings.
  17. Other job-related duties as the situation calls for and/or as directed by supervision/management to maintain clinic flow and serve all clients.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Requires walking, reaching/stretching, intermittent sitting, twisting and bending.
  2. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  3. Requires accuracy, good communication, judgment, and the ability to remain calm and provide appropriate advice and information.
  4. Must be able to maintain regular attendance to meet client need.
  5. Cognitive ability process verbal communications and record accurate notes.
