REPORTS TO : KLEO SHIFT SUPERVISOR

EMPLOYEE STATUS : FULL-TIME

The KLEO Community Family Life Center is a non-profit organization that provides essential services and a safe haven for Chicagos victims of violence. We empower individuals and families to build brighter futures through youth development, health fairs, workforce development, and food distribution programs. KLEO believes in compassionate, client-centered, culturally and linguistically appropriate services for all residents, including migrants.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Residential Monitor is a hybrid role that spans security, food handling, and monitoring of common areas. Its responsibilities include ensuring the well-being and safety of residents in our shelter program. The ideal candidate is organized, empathetic, adaptable, and committed to KLEOs mission and vision.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Security Duties :

  • Greet visitors, ensure guest positivity and respect, and maintain cultural sensitivity.
  • Observe and inspect items brought in by residents to maintain safety.
  • Conduct periodic walking inspections of the entire shelter campus to monitor security.
  • Respond promptly and calmly to emergencies, diffusing situations as needed using an established protocol.
  • Communicate relevant information via radio, phone, and written reports.
  • Reinforce shelter rules and policies consistently.

Food Handling Duties :

  • Prepare and package food items following safety and hygiene protocols.
  • Clean and disinfect food preparation tools, equipment, and surfaces.
  • Monitor and report low food supplies to prevent disruptions.
  • Adhere to proper food storage procedures to prevent spoilage.
  • Manage food rotation labeling and ensure accurate food item labels.
  • Hallway and Common Area Duties :

  • Support the intake and discharge process for residents.
  • Assist with meal and snack distribution.
  • Provide laundry assistance for client clothing and towels.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and all other events.
  • Support shelter operations during special events and outreach efforts.
  • General Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to exert up to 15 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently.
  • Maintain punctual attendance consistent with ADA and federal, state, and local standards.
  • Perform job functions by ADA and related standards.
  • Qualifications :

  • High school diploma / GED or equivalent experience is required.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or French Creole is preferred.
  • Experience working with homeless and migrant services is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Proficient in MS Office and email systems; ability to learn new software programs.
  • Team player with sensitivity to issues of diversity.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Other Requirements :

  • Must maintain strict client confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics and agency policies.
  • Participate in required training, fundraising events, community fairs, and outreach efforts.
