Part-time Transit Specialist

Knox County Transit is looking for a part-time Transit Specialist to be the first point of contact for our riders—connecting people to the services they need and ensuring our transit system runs like clockwork. As a Transit Specialist, you’ll be the voice on the line when someone calls for a ride, the brain behind smart scheduling, and the heartbeat of daily operations. You’re not just answering phones — you’re ensuring mobility and dignity for our community.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Answer calls and assist customers with transportation questions and ride scheduling.
• Use our Computer-Aided Dispatch system to schedule, track, and confirm rides.
• Communicate with drivers via radio to support on-the-ground service delivery.
• Make smart scheduling decisions considering route loads, timing, and rider needs.
• Provide top-notch customer service, even under pressure.
• Handle credit card transactions and manage trip changes in real-time.
• Triage concerns and coordinate with Driver Supervisors and office staff.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent (required).
• Strong communication skills - written, verbal, and professional phone etiquette.
• Solid computer skills, multi-screen navigation, and quick data entry abilities.
• Calm under pressure; thrives in a team where multitasking is the norm.
• Familiarity with Knox County and Mount Vernon is a plus.
