Job Overview
The Thermal Processing Manager at Komatsu will be heavily involved with Evaluation of Metallurgical Samples and Foundry/Forging Suppliers (Visiting/Observing Furnace and Induction Hardening Operations.). This Role will have a Metallurgical Engineer directly reporting to it. The Thermal Processing Manager will interact regularly with a variety of Internal Departments including but not limited to: Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, Warehouse, Commercial Management, IT, Legal, OE, Aftermarket Parts and Customer Service, Accounting and Finance. This Role will also work heavily with External Suppliers.
Key Job Responsibilities
Reviews current internal thermal processes and outcomes according to SLQDC.
Reviews current Supply Chain processes for forgings and castings and evaluates according to SLQDC.
Creates short term and long-term strategic plans for implementing improvements for any and all thermal processes.
Research new and current technologies for process improvements.
Drives reductions in Total Cost of Ownership through the entire value, by focusing on material initiatives. Reviews largest cost reduction opportunities with operations for evaluation with material changes or process updates.
Evaluate and recommend process improvements to support the Gearing Center of Excellence. Evaluate and recommend material changes to support reductions in TCO.
Lead cross-functional teams including engineering, quality, logistics, commercial, supply chain to assure all project targets are achieved (SLQDC). Project Manages cross functional groups to implement new materials, processes, or procedures.
Reviews current quality processes and implements procedure changes to close any gaps. Refine quality testing procedures and processes to further improve quality, focus on first pass yield and warranty reductions.
Write new processes and procedures to govern material selection, heat treatment, process selection, and process governance.
Develop project plans and provide regular reports and status updates to executive management.
Own processes and procedures to govern material selection, heat treatment, process selection, and process governance.
Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Material Science or Project Management. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering along with relevant working experience in Materials or Project Management background will be considered.
5 years of relevant working experience.
Experience working in an ERP environment (SAP a plus).
Make decisions and solve practical problems with a variety of variables in situations where standardization may be limited.
Self-driven, results oriented, and motivated to work effectively without direct supervision.
Ability to interpret technical data and a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Read and Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong focus on customer service. Fosters Teamwork and a Positive Work Environment.
Ability to multi-task and work successfully in a multi-functional team.
Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization and its partners.
Knowledge of mining, heavy equipment, and manufacturing processes.
