- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Social or Behavioral Sciences, or a related field
- Two years of relevant experience preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Ability to understand psychological and psychiatric evaluations and translate them into effective case plans
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Idaho POST Certification within 12 months of hire (required)
- Maintain AUF/ARCON Defensive Tactics certification
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurability
- First Aid and CPR Certification (or ability to obtain)
- Must pass pre-employment background check and drug testing
- Conduct court-ordered presentence and waiver investigations, using strength-based practices to assess a youth’s home life, criminal history, education, mental and physical health, and social development.
- Prepare thorough written reports and make informed sentencing recommendations to the Court.
- Apply Motivational Interviewing and evidence-based strategies to develop individualized treatment and rehabilitation plans.
- Supervise and manage a caseload of juvenile offenders, determining appropriate risk levels and supervision intensity.
- Provide in-court testimony, participate in hearings, and initiate court actions such as probation violations, reviews, warrants, and detention hearings.
- Conduct field work, including home visits, school and employment checks, surveillance, and compliance verification.
- Collaborate closely with families, schools, treatment providers, law enforcement, and the Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections.
- Monitor offender progress in treatment programs and contribute to custody reviews and parole eligibility decisions.
- Serve as a mandatory reporter, remaining vigilant to child abuse, neglect, and safety concerns.
- Assist with mentoring and training interns, volunteers, and newer probation officers.
