Kukui Corporation recently hired a new CEO and will be locating its headquarters in Las Vegas. Kukui is now seeking a Controller to assume accounting leadership responsibilities for Kukui Corporation based in the Las Vegas headquarters.
Controller Job Summary:
The Controller position is an active, hands-on team member who will report directly to the CFO and truly be a business partner as Kukui Corporation continues to expand its scope and revenues. The Controller will be actively involved in managing the day-to-day aspects of Accounting, Financial Reporting, Budgeting, Forecasting, Strategic Planning and Analysis, and the operational reporting aspects of the business.
The ideal candidate for the Controller position may have an audit or public accounting foundation, an active CPA license, and at least 5 years in the controllership or chief accounting officer role with an established software or SaaS business. In addition, the ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience in leadership roles in accounting, extensive experience in external financial reporting, experience in designing and implementing internal controls, income tax compliance, 409a, foreign currency accounting, consolidations, M&A, experience in accounting for acquisitions, and depth in working with advanced accounting systems. Responsible for maintaining Kukui Corporation's fiscal records and related accounting systems of Kukui Corporation and oversight of the accounting policies and procedures to ensure that all financial transactions are executed and documented in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Provides leadership and daily direction to the accounting team in accordance with the overall strategic direction of the CFO.
- Oversee the accounting operations including customer billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, financial reporting, and payroll.
- Maintain complete and accurate books and records for all legal entities appropriately reconciled and supported by documentation.
- Oversee the preparation of GAAP financial statements and supporting schedules and other operational analyses.
- Prepare monthly management and board financial and operational reporting package along with management discussion and analysis.
- Ensure compliance of all external financial reporting and all tax compliance reporting regulations.
- Develop accounting systems and internal control processes to enhance financial reporting and the internal control environment.
- Understand and apply Kukui Corporation's revenue recognition policies, controls and processes for accurate revenue recognition in accordance with contract terms and ASC 606.
- Document accounting policies and procedures and establish documentation requirements to support underlying transactions.
- Oversee the preparation and coordination of external audits and ensure records are maintained and organized.
- Prepare the budget under the direction of the CFO and maintain the financial forecast.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for improvement in financial and operational reporting.
- Manage and develop direct reporting accounting staff.

Qualifications & Skills:
- CPA license
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited institute of higher education
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience in an accounting leadership role in a mid-sized SaaS business
- Experience handling high volume transactions and multiple product lines
- Experienced at preparing budgets and forecasts
- Multi-company consolidation experience and experience in accounting for acquisitions
- Experience with foreign operations and accounting for foreign currencies
- Excellent financial reporting skills
- Strong financial planning and analysis capabilities
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Effective presentation skills with investors, owners, C-level executives, and customers
- Experience in a software company, or subscription-based business
- Able to manage through influence and collaboration
- Demonstrated effectiveness in staff development, team building, and conflict resolution
Working Experience:
10 years of experience in leadership role
5 years in the controllership or chief accounting officer role
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited institute of higher education
