Overview
The Housing Director oversees the operation of emergency shelter, transitional housing, and permanent supportive housing continuum for La Casa. The position also coordinates smooth program operations within La Casa and the larger community.

Duties

  • Supervise the operation of 5 units of transitional living housing for Domestic Violence victims.
  • Provide leadership, manage the program; make decisions; solve problems; hold routine staff meetings.
  • Manage the employee hiring process; develop or update job descriptions; develop performance expectations; identify essential functions and knowledge, skills and abilities required; respond to questions about background checks; assign work shifts; complete position requisition forms; form selection committees, if applicable.
  • Manage employees and team performance; provide new employee orientation; train or provide adequate training for employees, volunteers, and interns; coach, counsel and motivate employees; evaluate employees; investigate complaints or performance concerns; implement disciplinary action as needed.
  • Manage and ensure effective employee/labor relations; create an ethical, non-discriminatory, and safe work environment; establish effective communication lines/methods; identify and solve employee problems; manage conflict, approve leave and overtime; complete or review and sign time sheets.
  • Prepare and participate in local, state, federal and private housing grant funding applications including data collection and reporting.
  • Establish and manage a budget; approve expenditures; initiate and sign appropriate paperwork
  • Collection, maintenance and dissemination of statistical information relating to services, and those statistical reports mandated by funders (monthly, quarterly, and annually).
  • Work closely with La Casa Supportive Services Director and staff and housing partners
  • Work closely with the Finance Director and other senior leaders.
  • Maintain client confidentiality Housing Assistance Responsibilities: Actively participate in Housing related committees to include the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness.
  • Develop and maintain housing policies and procedures.
  • Work with La Casa committees and the La Casa Board of Directors, which will assure consistency, competence and compassion in program operations consistent with the objectives of La Casa.

Community Networking, Education, and Public Relations

  • Provide educational presentations on domestic violence issues to community organizations, groups, and La Casa staff.
  • Assist with volunteer and staff training.
  • Help with planning and staffing events and coordinating donations for residential clients.
  • Network with community providers, law enforcement and judiciary, City, State, and Federal legislators, and the public on behalf of domestic violence populations.
  • Conduct ongoing research and professional development to keep abreast of recent trends and developments regarding domestic violence, social work, and advocacy for the clients La Casa, Inc. serves.

Training

  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training as scheduled.
  • Continue to support and guide supervisory staff in utilizing our adapted agency-wide coaching/supervisory form approach.
  • Participate in the training of staff.
  • Read articles and/or attend conferences, seminars, and workshops.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in social work or related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of case management, including supervisory and prior quality assurance experience. Prior experience working with survivors of domestic violence in a shelter and/or individual group setting is desirable.
  • Substitution of education/experience: Is allowed on a one-for-one year basis.
  • Language: Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred.
  • Work environment: Work primarily sedentary and performed indoors in a temperature-controlled environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions and safe work practices. Requires frequent close vision work with computers and various forms/paperwork, some walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items up to 25 lbs. Frequent interaction with staff and clients requires participation in conversations in person and by telephone.
  • Other: (e.g., post-offer drug/alcohol screen, TB test, background check, driver;s license record).
  • Ability to understand the dynamics of domestic violence as they relate to each member of the family unit.
  • Warm, empathic, and non-judgmental, with demonstrated ability to maintain helathy boundaries with clients and staff.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $25.00 per hour
