What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Care - Overnight position at LA Dogworks?
Animal Care Team Members for GRAVEYARD are responsible for the overall care of all the animals within the facility and EXTENSIVELY DRYING the Dog Park. The responsibilities will vary based on the current needs of the facility. MUST BE ABLE TO WORK OVERNIGHT SHIFT.
Duties will include:
- Observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness, disease and discontent.
- Thoroughly clean all areas of the facility as often as is necessary.
- Take charge and handle/control the dogs in our care.
- Clean up after dogs’ elimination throughout your shift.
- To perform needed cleaning and maintenance of facility along with proper use of all equipment. Job Summary:
- Under direction of the Animal Care Manager, provides for the constant cleanliness of cages, runs and facility areas, proper feeding and care of all dogs in our care.
Major Duties:
- Follow the facility policies/procedures.
- Recognize and tell management about any unusual condition or abnormal behavior of any dog in our care. This will also be followed up with you creating an incident for filing.
- Report signs of illness, disease, injury or unusual activity to technicians/veterinarians.
- Clean/sanitize all runs, and other areas throughout the facility.
- Wash and dry towels and blankets.
- Wash and sterilize water and food bowls.
- Release animals to their owners as directed by customer care and/or shift leader. Perform general cleaning.
- Maintain equipment used to complete job assignments and keeping such equipment and tools in good working condition.
- Keep equipment and tools put away in proper storage areas.
Physical Effort:
- Often requires lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 40 lbs. Frequently requires the handling of materials up to 20 lbs. Additionally, handling dogs the weigh up to 150 lbs.
- Walking and/or standing for long periods.
- Frequently work in a bent position.
- May be required to use strength or agility in capturing and restraining stronger, more active dogs.
Working Conditions:
- Work is normally performed inside; some outside work is required. Exposure to unpleasant odors and noises.
- Exposure to bites, scratches and animal wastes.
- Possible exposure to contagious diseases.
Knowledge of:
- Cleaning and disinfecting methods and the use and care of cleaning materials and equipment.
- Proper methods of animal restraint.
Ability To:
- Use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency.
- Perform moderately heavy physical labor.
- Learn to administer medications and recognize abnormal conditions.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Education:
- High School Diploma and required certifications.
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of: Basic animal behavior
Experience:
- Previous experience in an Animal Shelter or related field preferred
