The role involves working closely with the nursing and medical staff to monitor the patient's condition, prevent harm, and assist with non-medical tasks as needed.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Patient Care: Monitor patient as well as their condition and vitals, work directly the with the RN to provide necessary care.
- Continuous Monitoring: Provide constant 1:1, direct supervision of assigned patients to ensure their safety.
- Patient Safety: Prevent patients from self-harm, falls, or other injuries by maintaining a vigilant presence. Notifying RN of any signs or plans of self-harm patient has shared.
- Communication: Report any changes in the patient's behavior, condition, or needs to the nursing staff promptly.
- Support: Assist patients with basic needs such as eating, drinking, and personal hygiene, ambulation, as permitted by the care plan.
- Companionship: Offer emotional support and comfort to patients through conversation and interaction.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of observations and interactions with the patient. For those patient’s requiring 1:1, document safety checks every 15 minutes
- Adherence to Policies: Follow all hospital policies and procedures, particularly those related to patient safety and confidentiality.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure a safe and supportive environment for the patient.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare setting or in a role involving direct patient care is preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong observation and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and patient in stressful situations, de-escalation helpful.
- Empathy and a compassionate approach to patient care.
- Certifications: CNA Certification is preferred but not required. BLS Certification required.
- Training: Initial OJT and annual training/competency required. Including training for patients at risk for harm, high fall risk, etc.
