Major Gifts Officer

LABOURE COLLEGE OF HEALTHCARE INC
Milton, MA Full Time
POSTED ON 8/31/2024 CLOSED ON 11/4/2024

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Major Gifts Officer position at LABOURE COLLEGE OF HEALTHCARE INC?

General Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director of College Advancement, the Major Gifts Officer is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding constituents to generate major gifts in support of the mission and development strategy of Labouré College of Healthcare.

This is an exciting time to join Laboure’s development team as we begin to re-energize giving and increase visibility with a comprehensive fundraising campaign. Labouré's case for support is a compelling one. We serve low-income, multicultural adult students pursuing careers in nursing and healthcare. At 68% BIPOC and over 40% multilingual, Labouré graduates are diversifying the Massachusetts nursing workforce on a scale unmatched in New England. This profoundly affects health equity and racism in healthcare delivery while alleviating the local nursing and healthcare shortage.

At Labouré, we are making a difference in the lives of our students and the thousands of patients they will care for. If you are passionate about supporting traditionally underserved students and immigrants in earning a degree, achieving financial independence through career education, breaking cycles of poverty for Greater Boston families, and achieving representation and health equity in our state – you will find this position very rewarding.

Essential Job Functions

  • Conduct significant prospective donor research and develop strategies to expand the college’s pool of major donors and prospects
  • Identify, cultivate, and play a lead role in soliciting and closing major gifts of ~$5,000 and up, primarily from individuals (this amount may increase over time as we execute our development strategy)
  • Identify new prospective leads with giving capacity who align with broader social justice issues addressed in the campaign and/or the college’s mission
  • Conduct wealth screening of the alumni data base and develop a strategy to convert alumni with capacity into major donors
  • Work closely with the Grants & Foundations Manager, when appropriate, to cultivate relationships that may lead to corporate/foundation gifts
  • Develop and present proposals to prospects/donors for funding
  • Create materials and engage with campus leaders for donor stewardship
  • Engage in networking activities or other opportunities to generate potential prospects for cultivation
  • Plan and implement experiences (tours, dinners, meetings, etc.) for major gift donors
  • Cultivate and expand planned giving and estate giving opportunities with new and existing donors and integrate planned gift objectives into individual donor requests
  • Engage in complex financial discussions with donors and their representatives (appropriate finance officers will also support you in this effort)
  • Track and report relationship management activity in Raiser’s Edge database
  • Ability to travel as necessary, available for nights and weekends

Competencies

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills: Able to communicate professionally and effectively with donors, and community members
  • Results-oriented self-starter: Able to see unaddressed problems and find solutions – comfortable bringing new ideas and strategies to the table
  • Comfortable working and collaborating in a team-oriented environment: Showing respect to team members at all times and balancing personal contributions and needs with those of other team members to achieve common objectives

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required
  • 3-5 years of fundraising experience, preferably in higher education, healthcare, or a similar field, with a demonstrated record of success in soliciting impactful gifts

  • Working knowledge of prospect research software and principles.
  • General knowledge of nonprofit tax law and good financial practice
  • Valid Massachusetts license and access to a vehicle required
  • Availability for evening and weekend events
  • Ability to travel as necessary (donor pool is largely focused in Greater Boston, however, gifts from alumni residing in Florida have begun to slowly increase. Travel beyond Greater Boston and the Cape will be minimal.)
