Animal Care Coordinators play a vital role in the daily care, health, and welfare of animals at our shelter. This role requires unwavering reliability and a team-oriented mindset. Due to the nature of our work and the impact it has on both animals and fellow team members, consistent attendance and teamwork are non-negotiable. Our shelter follows a strict attendance policy to ensure we can provide the highest standard of care. Candidates must demonstrate a strong sense of accountability, collaboration, and a commitment to being part of a dependable team.
To be considered for this position, APPLICANTS MUST HAVE AT LEAST ONE YEAR OF EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH ANIMALS IN A PROFESSIONAL CAPACITY. Personal pet care experience does not meet this requirement. If you say you have animal care experience and there is no explanation for that experience, you will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clean and disinfect kennels, animal areas, and transport vehicles
- Feed, water, and groom animals according to individual care plans
- Observe animal behavior and report any signs of illness or distress
- Administer medications as directed by veterinary staff
- Assist with vaccinations, intake exams, and basic diagnostics
- Maintain accurate records using designated software
- Support lost pet reunifications and facilitate adoption processes
- Provide customer service including phone support and in-person inquiries
- Restock supplies, maintain inventory, and assist with light facility maintenance
- Transport animals to and from veterinary clinics, rescue partners, or events
- Comfort and confidence in handling fractious or potentially dangerous dogs, following all shelter safety protocols
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- One year of animal care or shelter experience required
- Comfort with cats and dogs and the ability to read their body language
- Strong observational and communication skills
- Ability to lift at 75 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
