What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Lead Teacher position at Lake in the Hills, Village of (IL)?

Preschool Lead Teachers are responsible to create age appropriate/detailed lesson plans for preschool curriculum and successfully implement the curriculum in the classroom. Activities are expected to progressively promote social, physical and intellectual growth needed to be successful in elementary school. This position provides direction to the Preschool  Assistant Teacher and is responsible for the direct supervision of all students, and ensures all procedures are followed within the assigned classroom. *Evening hours are required for two nights per week, with afternoon hours likely. 

The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

Planning and supervision of classroom activities, develop lesson plans based on the curriculum outline, provide a variety of activities and materials that are age appropriate and relevant to young children, and supervise one Preschool Assistant Teacher during assigned classes.

Writes developmentally appropriate/age appropriate lesson plans and submits them as requested by Preschool Supervisor.

Creates a nurturing classroom through the use of play incorporating one-on-one interactions, small group, and large group activities. Treat children in a positive manner that encourages individuality and positive self-esteem.

Builds a positive relationship with children and parents.

Strong organization, written, speaking, leadership and classroom management skills.

Maintains a safe environment including supervising children at all times, acknowledging how many children are present at all times, closely supervising and greeting parents during drop-off and pick-up, being aware of student allergies/special conditions. Maintains a clean, safe, and secure environment for participants and employees.

Observe, evaluate, and document student growth through individual portfolios and student assessments. Conducts parent/teacher conferences as required by curriculum plan.

Works effectively with others and maintains a positive working relationship with all employees.

Utilizes proper safety precautions related to all work performed and adheres to all departmental and Village safety policies. Advises supervisor of hazards and corrective actions. Ensures that regular safety inspections/evacuation drills are performed. Ensures that the classroom/facility is secure as communicated by the Preschool Supervisor.

Communicates effectively with parents, co-workers, supervisor through email, phone and in-person.

Coordinates daily snack time for students and responsible for completing designated preschool housekeeping duties.

Takes monthly inventory of classroom supplies, snacks and submits information to the Preschool Supervisor.

Drive department vehicles for job related activities such as purchasing supplies, meetings, and field trips.
 
Posts monthly newsletters, parent classroom donations, maintaining bulletin boards and other relevant information to parent communication.

Participates in all monthly meetings, family nights, and in-service training.

Provides first aid assistance to participants when necessary. Maintain CPR/First Aid certification on a bi-yearly basis or as deemed necessary by Preschool Supervisor.

Thoroughly complete behavior, safety or accident reports and returns to the Preschool Supervisor within 24 hours of the accident/incident.

Acts as a mentor and role model for assistant teacher, students, and other employees.

Substitutes for other preschool staff as required.

Performs other duties as deemed appropriate.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

High school diploma or equivalent. Six months early childhood or preschool experience preferred.

Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid Illinois driver's license.

Current American Red Cross CPR and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain this certification prior to first day of program operations.
 
Preference is given to applicants with prior education or experience in a preschool or classroom setting.

Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication

Ability to effectively communicate with Village personnel, program participants and school personnel.

Mathematical Ability

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate percentages, fractions, and decimals.

Judgment and Situational Reasoning Ability

Ability to interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.

Ability to exercise independent judgment regarding adopting or modifying methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.

Ability to exercise sound judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving immediate response.

Physical Requirements

Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in activities which may include, but are not limited to physical games, activities, field trips and special events.

Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs while performing movements.

Ability to exert physical effort in light to moderate work; which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.

Ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes, and sounds associated with job-related objects, materials, and tasks.

Environmental Adaptability

Ability to work independently and complete daily activities under minimum supervision.

Ability to work, at times, with angry or irate individuals.
