If yes, Lakemary is looking for an Assistant for our outdoor animal and garden center, known as the Ranch in our Children's Residential Service Program and School. The Ranch is on 3 acres on our campus of our Psychiatric Residential Treatment Center for children in grades K-12. The Ranch includes a barn with classroom area, multiple garden areas, chickens, goats, pigs, miniature horse, rabbits, koi pond and a dog. The successful candidate for this position will support students in working with animal and garden activities as well as help maintain and repair facilities and grounds.

Ranch Assistant Responsibilities:

• Support Ranch under the direct supervision of Ranch Lead and Ranch teacher:

  • Conduct routine care of all animals including feeding, watering, grooming, providing bedding, exercising and health assessments

  • Maintain clean and tidy animal enclosures at all times including but not limited to clearing and disposing of waste and maintaining clean and safe environment.

  • Maintain and help with upkeep of all garden areas.

  • Provide upkeep of all Ranch grounds and barn, including but not limited to mowing, weed-eating, cleaning, trimming, planting, and maintaining equipment used for such.

  • Assist in preparation for, during, and after Ranch classes as needed

  • Provide leadership for all Ranch activities with and without clients on weekend shifts and any other times Ranch Lead or Ranch Teacher are absent.

  • Work outside year-round, sometimes in extreme temperatures.

An ideal candidate for this position has:

• Time management skills, including recognition of tasks to be completed during shift

• Public speaking ability (can respond to inquiries from clients’ families, clients and staff)

• Ability to apply and explain Ranch rules and regulations

• Maintain confidentiality of individual served and staff.

• Can understand and follow instructions, then carry out tasks independently

Ranch Assistant Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent

• Be at least 18 years of age

• Ability to complete repairs on and maintain equipment and facilities as needed.

• Experience gardening and/or caring for lawns, grounds preferred.

• Experience working with and caring for livestock preferred.

• Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred, willingness to learn required.

Other Job Details:

• Full time position- 8am - 4:30pm Saturday-Wednesday ( Days worked during week are negotiable, weekends required)

• Starting pay: $ 16.00/hour

• Part-time hours possible for qualified candidate (weekends required)
