JOB FUNCTION:

Prepare for and manage the day-to-day operational activities of a family child care setting assigned to support as a substitute or second adult caregiver. Understand and support children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development to ensure a safe and stimulating learning environment. Communicate effectively with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, the family child care educator, and the parents. Build collaborative relationships with area family child care educators, and explore additional shared services supports to save providers’ cost and time.


Depending on your location, this position helps to cover services in Becker, Douglas, or Otter Tail County.

QUALIFICATIONS:


Minimum

  • 2 years of practical experience working directly with young children
  • Knowledge of Minnesota Rule 2 and/or Rule 3 child care licensing regulations
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, planning, and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work independently, to be resourceful and adaptable, and to work within a flexible schedule
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license, current insurance coverage if using own vehicle, and be able to arrange own transportation to meet with clients and conduct business within the service delivery area

Preferred

  • Possess or be pursuing a Child Development Associate (CDA) or college degree (Associates or Bachelors) in Child Development, Early Childhood, Education, Human Services or a related field
  • Experience working in a child care setting
  • Experience with community organizing, community engagement, and/or outreach
  • Experience working with people with low incomes

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


IMPLEMENT PROGRAM ACTIVITIES:

A. Coordinate and implement shared services strategies to support local family child care educators

  • Ensure licensing requirements for Family Child Care Substitute and Second Adult Caregiver are met.
  • Outreach to and connect with area family child care educators to build rapport with and support for the Shared Services Alliance program.
  • Work with Family Child Care Support Coordinator & Division Director to support and grow a Shared Services Alliance Membership program.
  • Utilize online forms and calendar tool for scheduling substitute/second caregiver booking availability.
  • Provide excellent customer service and respond quickly via phone, text, or email to substitute care requests.
  • Participate in orientation to family child care programs and complete daily on-site checklists to ensure the health & safety of the children in care.
  • Keep records needed for the program operations, such as attendance and Food Program participation.
  • Keep notes on program policies and preferences.
  • Prepare optional, age-appropriate activities to engage children and promote their growth & development.
  • Build connections with area family child care educators and seek regularly scheduled feedback on the Shared Services Alliance program.

B. Maintain documentation and utilize data

  • Maintain records of recruitment and substitute educator activities in an Excel database, ensuring regular updates, confidentiality, and accuracy.
  • Analyze data recorded in the database to guide program activities, and to monitor equity in program outcomes.
  • Assist CAPLP fiscal staff and Supervisor in the invoicing process.
  • Create and share reports to communicate participant experiences and Shared Services Alliance program progress.
  • Assist in the development of localized print and digital resources for outreach and support.
  • Follow established professional, ethical, and legal standards including maintaining confidentiality of all program participants.

Agency and Division Support

  • Represent Agency in the communities we serve
  • Compile and submit required reports and data
  • Assist with other Division projects as requested by supervisor
  • Attend and participate in agency, community, and state meetings important to effective Agency operations
  • Seek out additional training to enhance personal development
  • Promote and enhance the integration of the full array of Agency services
  • Assist with the orientation/training of new staff
  • Assist your Director with the planning and implementation of new opportunities to expand and strengthen programming
  • Track financial expenses and other data associated with your program as requested
  • Participate effectively with other private and public community organizations and state agencies to promote and support partnerships for the achievement of CAPLP’s goals
  • Participate in Agency efforts to assess the external and internal environments to ensure the provision of quality programming which meet identified community needs
  • Availability to work designated Agency hours for your Division and position
