Position Title: Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) Driver
Job Type: Full-Time / Part-Time
Location: Sheboygan County
Position Summary:
We are seeking compassionate and reliable Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) Drivers to provide safe and comfortable transportation for individuals who require assistance traveling to and from appointments, work, school, and day programming. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that passengers, including individuals using wheelchairs and those with mobility challenges, arrive at their destinations on time and in a safe manner. This role requires excellent customer service, attention to detail, and a caring attitude toward passengers' needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transport passengers to and from medical appointments, work, school, and day programs.
- Provide assistance to individuals with mobility impairments, including the proper use of wheelchair lifts, securing wheelchairs, and ensuring the comfort of all passengers during transit.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized vehicle to ensure the well-being of passengers.
- Assist passengers in and out of the vehicle as needed, ensuring safe boarding and departure.
- Ensure all passengers are properly secured in their seats or wheelchairs before driving.
- Follow all traffic laws and safety regulations to ensure safe and timely transport.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, coordinators, and family members regarding delays, routes, and other important information.
- Document daily activities, including passenger pick-up and drop-off times, mileage, and any incidents that may occur.
- Conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections to ensure vehicles are safe and in proper working order, reporting any maintenance issues as necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect for the privacy of all passengers, following HIPAA and other applicable regulations.
- Provide high-quality customer service by being polite, courteous, and respectful to passengers and their families.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (no major violations within the past 5 years).
- Experience driving large vehicles or vans preferred.
- Knowledge of safe driving practices, traffic laws, and regulations.
- Ability to assist individuals with mobility challenges, including those using wheelchairs.
- Ability to lift and assist passengers as needed.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and patient in stressful or emergency situations.
- First Aid and CPR certification (Will Train)
- Must pass a background check and drug screening.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to assist passengers in and out of the vehicle.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds or more when necessary.
- Prolonged periods of sitting and driving.
- Ability to bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods as needed to assist passengers.
