Lakeview School District is located on the south side of Battle Creek, an economically and culturally diverse community of 53,000 located in south-central lower Michigan. The Lakeview School District is a highly respected, dynamic public school system, which seeks implantation of meaningful change with the goal of responsibly restructuring the District’s educational programs.

Lakeview School District is a comprehensive school of approximately 3,800 students in grades K-12 with 500 faculty and support staff members with an annual General Fund Budget of $40 million. The District is comprised of seven school buildings, four K-4 elementary buildings, one 5-8 middle school building, one high school and one alternative education school.

POSITION SUMMARY : The successful candidate will instruct students in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth in the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (

  • Teach Lakeview School District approved elementary curriculum.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepare for classes assigned.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs & capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, while maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth, keeping appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Diagnose the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  • Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day as necessary.
  • Regular, dependable attendance is a critical performance factor to ensure consistent, high quality services to children and families.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Works collaboratively with a culturally diverse community and student population.
  • Contributes constructively to closing racial, ethnic, gender, and socio-economic achievement gaps.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues, staff, students and community groups of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation, disability and ethnic backgrounds.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : Students, student aides and parent helpers.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES : Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication. Ability to work with staff, parents and children.

MINIMIM REQUIREMENTS :

  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with elementary teaching endorsement
  • Lifelong learner with a collaborative spirit
  • PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS :

  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Experience working with students in a diverse, multicultural academic setting
  • Bilingual preferred but not required
