The Maintenance Scheduler - Food Manufacturing is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities within a food manufacturing environment. This role ensures maintenance work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with GMP, food safety, and regulatory requirements while minimizing production downtime and supporting overall equipment reliability.

The Maintenance Scheduler - Food Manufacturing is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities within a food manufacturing environment. This role ensures maintenance work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with GMP, food safety, and regulatory requirements while minimizing production downtime and supporting overall equipment reliability.
Key Responsibilities / Duties
- Develop and maintain detailed weekly, daily, and long-range maintenance schedules for preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with production, sanitation, and quality teams to minimize impact on food manufacturing operations.
- Ensure all work orders are fully planned with defined scope, labor estimates, required parts, tools, permits, and sanitation requirements.
- Prioritize maintenance work based on food safety, regulatory compliance, equipment criticality, and production needs.
- Schedule maintenance activities around production runs, sanitation windows, and changeovers.
- Meet with contractors and vendors to review scope of work, schedules, safety expectations, GMP requirements, and site rules prior to job execution.
- Monitor schedule compliance, adjust plans as needed for emergencies, and communicate changes effectively.
- Track maintenance backlog, labor utilization, PM compliance, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Coordinate with storeroom and procurement to ensure availability of approved parts and food-grade materials.
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with GMP, HACCP, OSHA, FDA, and internal food safety policies.
- Maintain accurate records in the CMMS, including work orders, schedules, asset history, and PM documentation.
- Participate in continuous improvement and reliability initiatives to reduce unplanned downtime and improve equipment performance.
- Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, SQF/BRC, and food safety audit requirements.
- Familiarity with reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) principles.
- CMMS experience such as SAP, or similar systems.
- Professional certification such as CMRP or CPMM.
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in maintenance management, or related field preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in maintenance scheduling, planning, or industrial maintenance, preferably in food manufacturing.
- Strong working knowledge of CMMS systems and maintenance planning processes.
- Understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies in regulated environments.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and maintenance procedures.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Frequently stand, walk and sit.
- Occasionally bend at the waist, twist/turn, kneel, squat, climb/heights, crawl, reach outward and above shoulder.
- Constantly have head/neck movements.
- Frequently, push/pull and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Constantly type/keyboard and repetitive hand use.
- Exposed to loud noise when on the production floor.
