JOB DESCRIPTION:
Primary Purpose: To assist in providing safe and efficient transportation for students.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Assist in assignment of substitute bus drivers secured for morning and afternoon bus routes.
- Assist with extracurricular transportation.
- Dispatch drivers and vehicles.
- Serve as substitute bus driver.
- Perform duties as assigned and related to the daily routine of pupil transportation in the District.
- Utilize telephone and radio communication.
- Correct unsafe conditions that may exist in the work area that could cause an accident. Any conditions that are not correctable by you are to be reported to the supervisor immediately.
- Know and practice the proper safety procedures in operating machinery and equipment as required for the job.
- Know and practice safety techniques in lifting, climbing and performing other job duties.
- Attendance at work is an essential function.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.
EXPERIENCE:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Certification of good health
- Successful completion of bus driver's certification program
- Valid Texas commercial driver's license
- Eligible for coverage under the District's vehicle insurance program
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of Lamar CISD pupil transportation system
- General mechanical comprehension
- Ability to read and understand instructions for transportation and safety procedures
OTHER INFORMATION:
Working Conditions: Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds), reaching above shoulders, use of fingers, walking, standing, operation of motor vehicle, specific visual requirements (driving), depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors, specific hearing requirements (oral and phone conversations, driving). Outside and inside; excessive heat, cold and/or humidity; excessive dampness or chilling, excessive noise (intermittent), dust; fumes, smoke, or gases; solvents (degreasing agents), grease and oils, unusual fatigue factors, protracted or irregular hours of work.
