What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Assistant, Welcome Center (LU Crew) position at Lamar University?
The Welcome Center is seeking enthusiastic and professional LU Crew members to serve as campus tour guides and front-line representatives for Lamar University. LU Crew members conduct campus tours, assist with Admissions and Welcome Center operations, and support university events such as Cardinal View and Orientation.
- Conduct engaging campus tours for prospective students, families, and visitors
- Manage the Admissions phone queue and respond professionally to university inquiries
- Cover the Welcome Center front desk and greet campus visitors
- Assist with logging and distributing mail for Admissions
- Provide support for major events such as Cardinal View and Orientation
- Assist with event setup, prep, and logistics as needed
- Represent Lamar University with enthusiasm, professionalism, and school pride
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Must be a current Lamar University student enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Professional, dependable, and customer service oriented
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced and highly visible campus environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in customer service, hospitality, or campus involvement
- Knowledge of Lamar University’s campus, resources, and traditions
- Bilingual or multilingual communication skills a plus
- Ability to walk for extended periods during campus tours
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs for event setup as needed
