What are the responsibilities and job description for the Host/Hostess position at Land's End Management Corporation?

Summary of Position: Host/Hostesses cordially greet all guests and seat them in order of arrival. Host/Hostess must perform these duties in a customer friendly, conscientious, and company-oriented manner. This position must direct and assist servers and bus people to obtain maximum efficiency and customer satisfaction throughout the dining room. This position is expected to communicate and coordinate effectively with Bussers, Bartenders, and other Servers, and to respond well to the direction of the Restaurant Manager and Restaurant Supervisors.


Essential Functions:


  • Arrive at work groomed and appropriately dressed.
  • Answer the phone within 4 rings always and make reservations.
  • Check schedule for number and names of anticipated Servers. As dining hour approaches, report any absences or tardiness to the manager.
  • Develop station assignments for Servers.
  • Check the condition of the Dining Room both before and after server attention. Report any serious lapses in attention from prior shift to Manager.
  • Check reservation book. Inform the Expeditor about the time and number of guests.
  • Help with special table set-up if needed and time permits.
  • Check menus for cleanliness, present-ability, and adequate supply. Make sure a special page is in.
  • Greet guests and determine their needs. Direct to the Bar/Lounge, Front Desk, Deck, Conference Areas for Special Events, etc. Seat guest in order of arrival.
  • Provide a menu for each guest.
  • Inform Server after seating their first table.
  • Inform Expeditor of large seating.
  • As the dining room fills, take names. Seat guest in order of arrival, as appropriate table size becomes available. Give guests the option of waiting in the lounge until a table becomes available.
  • Monitor waiting time for each table after seating to make sure service standards are met.
  • Advise Manager of house tempo in case of slowdown in service, which might affect table turns.
  • Oversee, direct, and assist Servers or Bussers as needed to meet service standards, including but not limited to bussing, water, etc.
  • Take, process, and prepare To-Go orders.


Other Functions:


  • Assist in maintaining appearances of the entryway and area around host station. This is the guest’s first impression of the restaurant.
  • Perform phase out of dining room personnel consistent with the inflow of guests. Phase Servers or closed stations on the advice of the Manager.
  • Oversee general condition of dining room.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by the Manager.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Must meet Land’s End Resort Server standard including MICROS proficiency, knowledge of menu, beverage, and service sequence.
  • Sociable; likes people and can relate easily to people of various ages, culture, and sociable disposition.
  • Willing and able to supervise and offer direction to service staff.
  • Must be able to communicate with management.
  • Must possess good organizational skills and work well under pressure.
  • Excellent telephone skills required.
  • Must possess neat handwriting skills and know basic math.


Qualifications:


  • Previous experience or equivalent training in high volume, full-service operations.
  • Friendly and sociable.
