Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Buildings and Grounds, the Transportation Manager will schedule, coordinate, and supervise the scheduling and dispatch of buses both large school buses and small activity buses for regular morning and afternoon routes, field trips, and athletic/extracurricular events. This individual will work with various school personnel to identify their busing needs, supervise and schedule bus drivers, oversee training programs and activities related to busing; and prepare and maintain accurate records related to vehicles and drivers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of Landon School and Landon Summer’s Transportation needs.
  • Management day to      day school bus operations including, but not limited to, personnel      management and retention, scheduling, routing, daily provision of      services, complaints, discipline (driver and rider).
  • Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures in conjunction with the Director of Buildings and Grounds and the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Develop transportation budget alongside the Director of Buildings and Grounds and the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Develop and manage daily bus routes in coordination with admissions and schedules based on demand by area.
  • Manage the registration process, including contracts, communication, and inquiries.
  • Manage all transportation communication with the Landon community.
  • Coordinate with various departments at Landon, including communication, business office, buildings and grounds, and administration to ensure smooth operations.
  • Coordinate transportation for sporting events, field trips, and other School events in conjunction with Landon’s administrators.
  • Drive various morning and afternoon bus routes as needed and serve as a driver for special trips during the day (i.e. field trips, Landon Summer outings).
  • Train drivers, including faculty & staff who drive for athletic events, on various vehicles and coordinate training documentation.
  • Oversee a safe and secure working environment for all transportation employees. 
  • Schedule drivers to handle morning and afternoon routes, ensure bus venders are scheduled, and make driver adjustments as needed.
  • Identify and maintain relationships with outside transportation vendors.
  • Assist in identifying new bus drivers and transportation vendors.
  • Ensure proper driver/ vehicle licensing, registrations, certifications, inspections and maintenance and related documentation.
  • Review and submit data and timesheets payroll through the School’s payroll system.
  • Manages the maintenance and repair of associated equipment and vehicles. 
  • Ensure all buses are functioning in the morning and performs routine maintenance on the vehicles – checks fluids, lights.
  • Ensures all buses are inspected by MDOT as required, arranges for bus maintenance, and maintains all maintenance records/vehicle records/tags. 
  • Schedule vehicle maintenance, MDOT inspections, emissions, and vehicle registration
  • Maintain files on each vehicle (i.e. tags, inspections, repair records) and ensure that emergency instructions are in each vehicle.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills for families and students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills needed to communicate and coordinate with others on campus as well as parents, vendors, suppliers, etc.
  • Strong organizational skills for maintaining vehicle and driver records and related paperwork.
  • Experience supervising others.
  • Good computer skills. 
  • CDL license preferred.
