Transportation Supervisor Job Description
Reports to: Transportation and Compliance Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary:
The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for the transportation team, managing our domestic, international, and private fleet management of outbound and inbound freight. This role works cross functionally to ensure compliance related to the shipment of goods, carrier relations, equipment, and the transportation team.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The position supervises others and requires accountability for direct reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage Lane Automotive’s daily delivery truck operations, including equipment, resources, and freight.
- Supervise and train drivers on Lane Automotive Traffic policies/procedures and governmental regulations.
- Adjust and maintain delivery routes based on analysis of route efficiencies, customer sales, DOT/State regulations, and hours of service.
- Maintain fleet based GPS and electronic logbook hardware/software.
- File and/or submit documentation or electronic data required for inbound and outbound domestic and international shipments.
- Analyze shipping data, to identify trends or opportunities to reduce damages and/or increase savings.
- Perform freight bill auditing.
- Create and monitor reports to measure performance.
- Attend industry events (Company Events, Trade Shows, and Motorsports Events) as a strong brand representative.
- Conduct employee performance evaluations, issues disciplinary action, and consistently enforce company policies as outlined in the employee handbook.
- Work in a team environment.
- Promote and maintain a clean and safe work environment by complying with procedures, policies, training, and regulations.
- Ensure established policies and procedures are followed.
- Participate in continuous improvement project team activities.
- Assist with talent and workforce planning.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferred.
- 3-5 years of Transportation and or Logistics responsibilities in a distribution environment, preferred.
- Experience with transportation cost savings, preferred.
- Experience with domestic and international regulations that impact the transportation and logistics function, including NAFTA, CAFTA, National Motor Freight Classification Tariff (NMFC), hazardous shipping requirements, carrier contracts, freight claim filings, and motor carrier cargo insurance.
Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively (clear and concise) through writing, speaking, active listening, and presentation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and other job-related equipment and software.
- Ability to approach conflicts with vendors, customers, and colleagues in a constructive manner.
- Ability to develop and foster business relationships.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret data.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Excellent organization skills and detail-oriented with exceptional critical thinking, multi-tasking, and problem-solving abilities.

- Ability to work with minimum supervision/guidance and must be self-directed.

- Willing to participate in Company designated training.

Physical Demands:
