This position will provide behavioral support and training to at-risk individuals housed in our residential home located in Montpelier, VT. Our homes are licensed to provide therapeutic foster care and supports for up to 4 youth. Staff will assist youth with attaining the necessarily life skills, social skills and vocational goals that they have set in collaboration with their case managers. This may involve promoting social skills through mentoring in community services activities, cooking, sports, adventure based activities, job search and job support.
Residential Support Staff will be responsible, emotionally mature people of good character as exemplified by past performance and general reputation.
The position requires using experiential and some adventure-based training and activities that will provide opportunities for youth to make positive choices, gain self-confidence and learn skills that are critical to their lifelong development. Will include travel for appointments and excursions, which may occasionally be several hours.
Some Sample Tasks:
Participate as part of an interdisciplinary team in the creation of each client’s treatment plan:
- Provide written input regarding each client’s progress as requested.
- Provide verbal input at team meetings about implementation of each client’s treatment plan.
- Be responsible for implementation of each client’s treatment plan and short term needs.
- Complete the daily log, individual logs, serious incident reports, medication records, cash accounts, and other forms of documentation according to individual program, policy, and procedures.
- Help clients cultivate appropriate social, behavioral, and interpersonal skills and attitudes needed for community living.
- Set and enforce behavioral limits for the clients.
- Guide and instruct the clients in the development of problem solving skills.
- Understand and implement agency guidelines regarding behavior management techniques including physical restraint.
Position Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license, excellent driving record, and access to a safe, reliable, insured, inspected vehicle is required.
- Transport clients to appointments and excursions.
- This position requires candidates to be at least 21 years of age.
- Availability to work 2pm-9pm shifts, including at least 1 weekend day
- If selected, candidates must also successfully complete required background checks.
Physical Requirements:
- Given the at-risk population served, the position requires ongoing training and preparedness in the execution of physical restraint techniques. This may require running to catch a child. The “Handle with Care” training program used articulates that individuals with back and neck limitations are likely to be hampered in the execution of the protocols and greatly increases risk to harm to self or student.
- Ability to engage youth in a variety of activities ranging from art, music, cooking and physical activities such as hiking and other outdoor sports.
- Able to sit/drive for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
