What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrician position at Las Virgenes Municipal Water District?
The recruitment process will consist of an application screening, 1st round (structured) interview, and 2nd round (selection) interview. Candidates will be notified of their status in the recruitment process via e-mail. The tentative date ranges for the interviews are listed below:
1st Round Interview Date Range: March 4 - 7, 2024
2nd Round Interview Date Range: March 11 - 14, 2024
Troubleshoots electrical problems at plants, pumping and lift stations, and other District buildings. Equipment may include low and high voltage electrical motors, switchgear; distribution panels, transformers, lighting panels, generators, motor control circuits, motor control panels, and all associated control circuits ranging from low voltage to high voltage (nominal volts DC to 4160 volts AC).
Performs installation of raceways, conductors and other electrical utilization equipment in a neat and workmanlike manner that is compliant with national and local electrical codes.
Performs corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance on telephonic PA systems, fire systems, security systems, radio equipment, generators, personal air monitoring equipment, motor bearings, electrical services, motor control panels, distribution panels, electrical components, screens, valves, gates, dampers, actuators, boilers, conveyers, HVAC, and other related equipment on a regular basis.
Schedules, oversees, inspects work performed by contractors or vendors, specifies tasks to be performed, monitors compliance testing and performance issues associated with the contract, and assists in project or contract completion.
Maintains comprehensive logs on completed maintenance; researches components or products; requisitions and maintains an adequate inventory of necessary spare parts, shop and vehicle supplies.
Reviews and updates electrical plans, specifications wiring diagrams and schematics.
Utilizes a variety of computer hardware, firmware, and software to perform technical duties and to support daily administrative duties including timekeeping, CMMS, Intranet, Internet, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.
Utilizes CMMS for daily work. If emergencies arise, ensures work is documented in CMMS. Provides updates on open work orders and completes work orders as work is completed.
Performs work in a safe manner at all times. Complies with safety and health policies, procedures and practices. Attends and completes all mandatory safety training courses and events and works to insure the safety of co-workers and the general public.DEMONSTRATED KNOWLEDGE OF AND PERFORMANCE IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
- Principles and techniques of maintaining and repairing electrical equipment.
- Troubleshooting methods and procedures.
- Electrical components and wiring configurations used in industrial systems.
- Testing procedures used to detect problems, including operation of test instruments.
- Equipment associated with water reclamation plants, composting facilities, water treatment plants, pumping stations, lift stations, tanks, and building automation systems,
- Understands water treatment and distribution, reclaimed water, composting, and pumping processes,
- Safety practices and procedures including but not limited to; high and low voltage, lockout/tagout, confined spaces, and SDS sheets.
- Familiar with the National Electric Code and OSHA safe practices.
ABILITY TO:
- Read and interpret drawings, diagrams, and schematics.
- Provide guidance to less experienced technicians, operators, and others.
- Update plans, drawings and schematics.
- Perform competent repair work and troubleshoot all plant electrical components.
- Utilize on-going corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance programs.
- Use Operations and Maintenance Manuals.
- Work independently.
- Understand the National Electrical Code as well as building codes, safety codes and other codes as required.
- Work occasional overtime and respond to emergencies 24/7/365.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
- Sufficient eyesight to read plans, specifications, O&Ms, and standard text and data
- Able to distinguish varying colors. (not color blind).
- Ability to speak and hear at normal conversational levels in person and over the telephone.
- Manual dexterity to write legibly and to use electrical test equipment.
- Ability to lift and carry up to approximately forty pounds and to reach, bend, or crouch to inspect equipment.
- Ability to walk on uneven and slippery surfaces.
- Exposure to outdoors and high noise levels as created by large pumps.
- Ability to travel to different sites and locations.
- Wear a respirator and other required PPE.
- Climb ladders, work from heights in excess of 8 feet.
EDUCATION: High School Graduation or equivalent is required.
EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of experience performing skilled electrical work in a water/wastewater facility and/or an industrial setting.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
A valid California class C driver's license must be maintained at all times.
DESIRED CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
One or more of the following certifications are highly desirable:
CWEA Grade I, II, III or 4 Electrical/Instrumentation Technician Certification
State of California Grade III Water Distribution Certification
State of California Grade III Water Treatment Certification
State of California Grade III Wastewater Treatment Certification
California State Department of Industrial Relations General Electrician Certification.
