Position Summary
The Clinical Applications Specialist plays a key role in the maintenance and enhancement of our Health IT systems, providing technical expertise, ongoing training, and support for staff.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Assist the Clinical Applications team with the maintenance of various clinical applications, taking leadership of different areas as needed and as directed by the Clinical Applications Manager and VP of HIT. The Clinical Applications Manager will determine priorities for tasks below. Utilize project management abilities to help lead and coordinate implementation of new functionality, upgrades, and clinical/operational processes.
Support
- Monitor the EMR help desk phone, inbox, and desktop and field support questions from staff. Work with IT/HIM/Analytics/Operations departments to troubleshoot technical issues that arise. Provide support to patients related to accessing and using the patient portal.
Data Integrity and Maintenance
- Assure ongoing data integrity of the EMR, interfaces, and other data-driven or data-producing applications through maintenance of scheduled reports and data clean-up as needed.
Training
- Coordinate and conduct EMR trainings for new and existing users, largely utilizing training videos for new staff trainings. Maintain accuracy of training materials and develop new content and training methodologies where applicable.
Content development
- Help develop needed clinical content in cooperation with Clinical Applications team members and key clinical leaders through workflow analysis and use of technical tools such as Visual Form Editor.
User Management
- Maintain user lists in the EMR and, when appropriate, activate and/or terminate access. Work with the IT department to ensure consistent and up to date permissions for EMR users.
Process Improvement
- Work as a member of the team to coordinate the implementation of functionality enhancements as needed by the health center and its programs to improve patient care, clinical quality, and staff satisfaction of clinical tools.

Required Knowledge, Education, Experience or Licensure/Registration
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, not required
- 1-2 years of healthcare experience preferred
- Programming/technical experience preferred, not required
