Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Implement and manage programs, curricular resources, and assist in evaluating the effectiveness of programs for students with special needs.
- Assist in planning and implementation of professional learning, program development, IEP development, special education best practices, and innovation of special methods and strategies for improving achievement.
- Observe, consult with and evaluate special education teachers, support staff, and related service providers.
- Collaborate with Local Education Agencies and LEARN administrators to facilitate PPT meetings and programming for students.
- Responsible for monitoring curriculum, material and methodology in compliance with IEP’s, CT SDE standards and Special Education mandates.
- Create and present information to general education staff regarding Special Education practices and procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of current laws and regulations pertaining to individuals with exceptional needs in the magnet school setting.
- Assist general education with 504 and SRBI implementation and support.
- Collaboratively support, build and maintain strong transition programming for students.
Experience and Training
- At least 8 years of experience in the education of individuals with exceptional needs with knowledge and skill in the implementation of SRBI and inclusionary practices.
- Knowledge and experience with IEP development, implementation and process,
- Skills to support, coach and develop personnel and programs, communicate effectively (written and verbal), problem solve, and model positive professional relationships.
- Knowledge of magnet school &/or general education operations and systems.
- Ability to perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and other school-related personnel.
- Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Transition Programming preferred.
Education and Certification Required
- Valid Special Education Teacher or Related Services Credential.
- Master’s degree in an appropriate educational field.
- Valid Connecticut Administrator Credential.
