What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Education position at Learning Brooke Early Childhood Education Center?
About Learning Brooke
At Learning Brooke, we are inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach, the RIE®/Educaring® Philosophy, and constructivist theory. We are a school for early childhood education where relationships, wonder, and inquiry are central. We believe children are born curious, competent, and full of potential—and that they thrive in an environment where authentic relationships and meaningful explorations guide their development.
We practice a shared Cycle of Inquiry—Observing, Interpreting, Analyzing, Reflecting, Forming Questions, and Modifying the Environment—which supports emergent curriculum and co-constructed knowledge among children and adults. At Learning Brooke, the role of the teacher is that of researcher, collaborator, and guide, working in close partnership with families and children to foster a community of learning.
Position Overview
Learning Brooke is seeking a passionate and experienced Director of Education to lead the educational vision across five classrooms, serving toddlers and preschool-aged children. This leadership position is pivotal in bringing the school’s mission to life through the delivery of high-quality, relationship-centered programming. The Director of Education is an integral member of the school’s leadership team and directly supports a teaching staff of 12 educators. This role is supervised by the Executive Director and collaborates closely with both the Administrative Assistant and the school’s owner.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and support the teaching staff in implementing Learning Brooke’s unique educational lens—grounded in the Reggio Emilia Approach, RIE®/Educaring® Philosophy, and developmental frameworks.
- Foster a culture of professionalism, reflection, trust, and belonging across the teaching team.
- Support the full Cycle of Inquiry and emergent curriculum planning in each classroom through documentation, reflective practice, and responsive curriculum development.
- Conduct regular classroom observations, individual and team coaching sessions, and reflective meetings with educators.
- Oversee the creation of documentation that makes children’s learning processes visible to families and the broader community.
- Ensure classroom environments are developmentally appropriate, inclusive, intentionally prepared, and reflective of the children's interests.
- Guide and uphold consistent, respectful teacher-child interactions based on authentic relationships.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director on hiring, onboarding, and retaining high-quality educators.
- Co-design and facilitate professional development, in-service training, and staff meetings.
- Build relationships with families and partner with teachers to support individualized child goals, including conference planning and parent communication.
- Ensure compliance with RI DHS child care licensing standards and health and safety requirements.
- Model and promote Learning Brooke’s values by demonstrating a parallel process: supporting teachers in the way we expect teachers to support children.
What We’re Looking For
- A warm, collaborative, and reflective leader with a deep commitment to early childhood education.
- Proven leadership experience in early learning settings, including supervision, coaching, and professional development.

- Strong knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practice.
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to navigate challenging conversations with care and clarity.
- Demonstrated ability to build team morale, hold others accountable, and support continuous professional growth.
