The Decatur Herald & Review, a Lee Enterprises daily newspaper covering Central Illinois, is seeking a proactive, creative, enthusiastic storyteller for its sports staff writer position. This person will cover local sports in Decatur, Macon County and the surrounding areas, with a focus on high-traffic, engaging features and enterprise stories, and being the No. 1 source for local sports in the market.
Candidates should have a strong background in journalism, be able to write engaging ledes and strong SEO headlines, and also the ability to take videos and photos, and utilize social media. Story focus will be breaking news, human interest, columns and other high-engagement content that focuses on people, not gamers.
Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English or Communications, or other related discipline. Ability to write clean copy fast and work under pressure is a must.
Salary : $38,200 - $48,400
