Overall Responsibilities:

A composite certified engineer typically designs, analyzes, and evaluates projects using composite materials, ensuring they meet specific performance requirements and standards. This role involves a deep understanding of composite materials like resins, carbon fiber, and fiberglass, and how to utilize them in various applications such as aircraft, automotive parts, and structures. They contribute to the development of manufacturing processes, tooling, and problem-solving related to composite materials

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and Analysis:


Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of projects using sound engineering principles and adherence to standards.

  • Material Expertise:


Develop specialized knowledge in the design, performance, and production of composite hardware.

  • Manufacturing Process Development:


Contribute to the development and implementation of manufacturing processes, plans, and tooling for composite parts.

  • Problem Solving:


Investigate and resolve technical problems related to composite manufacturing processes.

  • Producibility and Variation Analysis:


Perform Analyses To Ensure Manufacturing Process Capabilities Meet Requirements.

  • Quality Control:


Support quality sustainment and improvement projects related to composites.

  • Documentation:


Maintain clear, complete, and accurate records for project documentation and future reference.

  • Collaboration:


Partner with design engineers and other teams to develop solutions.

  • Optimization:


Champion the optimization of pultruded composites and manufacturing processes.

Characteristics and skills:

  • Engineering Principles: Strong understanding of engineering principles related to materials science, mechanics of materials, and structural analysis.
  • Composite Materials: In-depth knowledge of composite materials, including their properties, manufacturing processes, and applications.
  • CAD/CAM: Proficiency in using CAD/CAM software for design and analysis.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex technical problems.
  • Communication: Effective communication skills to explain technical information to various audiences.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage projects, meet deadlines, and work within budget constraints.
  • Data Analysis: Ability to analyze data, interpret results, and make informed decisions.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail in design, analysis, and documentation.


Educational and other requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering (e.g., mechanical, aerospace, materials science).
  • 5-10 years of experience in composites engineering, manufacturing, or related fields.
  • Certification with industry standards like the American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA) and the Composite Panel Association (CPA).
