CDM Smith (a privately held, employee-owned firm) is seeking a strategic, hands-on, and results-driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead our global financial operations. The CFO will be a key member of the leadership team, responsible for shaping and executing financial strategy, ensuring fiscal integrity, and driving sustainable growth across our global engineering and construction services. The CFO will ensure professional and ethical financial practices and a cohesive finance service offering across all levels of the organization, which is aligned with business strategy, to ensure the functionality and sustained profitability of the Company.

  • This position is based in a metropolitan area on the East Coast of the United States. Candidates must either currently reside on the East Coast or be willing to relocate to preferably Boston, MA or southern Florida. ***
  • Manages, leads, develops, and mentors high performance teams in the finance, accounting, and procurement functions.
  • Fosters a culture of teamwork, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Develops and executes financial strategies and programs aligned with corporate goals.
  • Reviews and approves the execution of business strategies for the firm services and programs .
  • Provides executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities and provides consultative support to planning initiatives through financial and management information analyses, reports, and recommendations.
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with senior executives to identify their needs and seek a full range of business solutions, providing accurate and relevant advice.
  • Advises the CEO and Board on financial planning, risk management, and capital structure.
  • Develops and evaluates short- and long-term strategic financial and operating objectives for the Company, in line with overall business strategy.
  • Formulates and implements finance, accounting, and procurement programs, policies, and procedures, effectively cascading to the senior financial management to ensure achievement of financial objectives.
  • Oversees global budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial reporting.
  • Ensures compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal controls.
  • Provides recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
  • Directs and oversees all aspects of the Finance & Accounting functions, ensuring healthy financial management at business unit and subsidiary levels.
  • Ensures credibility of the finance function by providing timely and accurate analyses of budgets, financial trends, and forecasts.
  • Leads the company stock ownership program and policy in accordance with appropriate guidelines.
  • Leads individuals in the CFO function including finance, accounting, procurement, payroll, treasury, tax, operational finance, and real estate.
  • Evaluates and advises on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory action.
  • Works with the CEO and executives to identify potential new business opportunities/sources of revenue.
  • Supports business units with financial modeling and scenario analysis.
  • Manages and minimizes the company's financial risk exposure by developing and maintaining systems of internal controls, and ensuring that the finance, accounting and internal audit and risk management functions are operating effectively.
  • Leads enterprise risk management and internal audit functions working with executive management and the Board of Directors.
  • Leads and is accountable for all regulatory compliance and ethical financial practices.
  • Identifies and evaluates M&A opportunities, joint ventures, and capital investments.
  • Seeks and identifies opportunities to enhance the firm's financial position and management of financial actions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • 20 years of related experience with 8 of those years in a direct executive capacity (i.e., CFO or similar capacity).

Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary on business demands.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a AEC environment (i.e., engineering and construction), and/or professional services industries is highly desirable
  • Experience in a privately-held and/or employee owned organization in a AEC or professional services industry.
  • Experience in the full life-cycle of federal and municipal contracting compliance, including knowledge of FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation) and related regulatory frameworks within each entity.
  • Current CPA certification.

Background Check And Drug Testing Information

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
