Position Summary
The Internal Communications Specialist is responsible for supporting the creation and delivery of clear, engaging internal content for Kemper employees. This role will assist in developing and managing intranet content, creating and distributing enterprise-wide emails and newsletters, and supporting the timely execution of internal communication plans across teams and channels.
The ideal candidate has prior experience in internal communications, strong writing skills, and an eagerness to collaborate and grow within the communications function. This position will work closely with senior members of the communications team and cross-functional partners in HR, IT, and other corporate and business functions.

Position Responsbilities
- Assist in developing and distributing internal communications including intranet articles, emails, newsletters, and digital signage for a variety of employee audiences.
- Partner with colleagues across Kemper support functions to create communications that support their goals, priorities, and initiatives (e.g., benefits awareness, cybersecurity, etc.).
- Maintain and update company intranet content (e.g., department pages, news posts, etc.)
- Assist with gathering and reporting internal communication metrics to help measure impact and performance.
- Support communications related to key employee activities, including philanthropy and employee engagement events.
- Perform copyediting and proofreading to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency across materials.
- Contribute to and help manage an enterprise-wide communications editorial calendar.
- Stay current on trends in employee communication and contribute ideas to improve message delivery and the overall employee experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field.
- Minimum of two years of relevant communications experience.
- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint), intranet CMS platforms and digital communication tools.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- The range for this position is $59,900 to $99,700. When determining candidate offers, we consider experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location among other factors. This job is also eligible for our Kemper benefits package (Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO, 401k, etc.)
