Leo A. Hoffmann Center is a nonprofit Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) that provides treatment to adolescent males (11-17 years) with complex mental health conditions. PRTF's are more intensive than other services, such as residential treatment or day treatment, but less medically intensive than a psychiatric hospital. Every client has an individualized plan of care based on all aspects of the individual's situation.
We are seeking a friendly, outgoing, team-oriented individual to join our team as the Full-time Recreation Coordinator. Under the direction of the Residential Treatment Supervisor, plans and participates in specialized games, sports, crafts, and leisure activities to help clients overcome mental, emotional, and physical disabilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design and implementation of a total recreation program emphasizing non-competitive recreation and the development of lifetime leisure skills.
- Plan, budget, and implement monthly activity calendars for each unit with supervision and approval from the Residential Treatment Supervisor.
- Direct unit activities and implement recreation/leisure objectives and activities as a part of the overall treatment program.
- Provide appropriate role modeling for clients in such areas as dress, language, social skills, etc.
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation every day.
Experience and Skills Requirements:
- Applicant must be 21 years of age or older.
- Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, or Recreation, Parks, and Leisure Services is preferred.
- Experience working with adolescents, or experience in an agency as a Recreation Coordinator.
- Experience providing auditory and visual supervision to clients is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and written.
- Ability to remain calm and emotionally available while serving emotionally disturbed youth.
Other Requirements:
- Must pass an Applicant Background Study through Minnesota Dept. of Human Services.
- Must have a valid driver's license and meet Hoffmann Center's insurance company criteria to drive.
- Ability to lift, up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance, assist staff in proper restraining of residents, the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time (2-4 hours), and the ability to twist, bend and stretch in a manner conducive to the execution of daily activities.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Wage Range: $19.00-$26.00 hourly, depending on experience.
