Leonard's Express, Inc. in Eau Claire, WI is looking for a Shop Manager. The Shop Manager is responsible for managing all day-to-day operations and the main source for Technician questions, guidance, training, and assistance. The Shop Manager is expected to be the role model for the technicians and must be able to perform and assist with all aspects of light, medium, and heavy repair. The Shop Manager will promote a safe work environment where staff excel, customer satisfaction exceeds expectations, and company financial goals are met. All job duties must be performed in a way that promotes safe practices in accordance with Leonard’s established safety programs. The essential duties and responsibilities of the position include:
- Manages and enforces compliance of daily operating safety processes via regular reviews and direct observation
- Develops a positive culture between drivers and technicians that creates a team to promote customer satisfaction, positive business practices and company financial expectations
- Conducts hands-on training with Technicians to ensure safety and compliance with correct techniques from the Technology Maintenance Council’s repair guide
- Encourages continuing education, facilitates on-going training to keep staff updated on company policy and procedures
- Develops and maintains the daily work planner to meet customer’s expectations, fulfill billable time, and maximize facility potential
- Traces and tracks daily productivity of staff to minimize down time and celebrate results
- Fosters an open dialog to create a positive culture of pride and professionalism promoting brand image
- Works with staff on the condition of the facility to maintain a clean, organized facility as a reflection of the quality of work performed
- Promotes “proactive” processes and solutions over “reactive” processes and solutions
- Processes driver’s in-person and remote inquiries in a prompt and efficient manner
- Communicates to drivers in a clear manner the nature of service needed and the estimated completion time
- Prepares detailed work orders for shop technicians to easily comprehend
- Keeps accurate records of work completed
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Requirements
Based on the essential duties and responsibilities of the position, the Shop Manager should have a number of professional skills and abilities:
- Displays excellent customer service skills including proper interpersonal and telephone etiquette
- Displays well-developed verbal and written communication skills
- Performs with little supervision and is a motivated self-starter
- Possesses sound organizational, records management, and time management skills
- Shows attention to detail plus the ability to effectively prioritize responsibilities, meet assigned deadlines, and manage the related stress
- Exhibits strong technical communication skills, advanced knowledge of Class A heavy diesel trucks and reefer trailers
- Able to translate repair jargon into layman’s terms
- Provides positive interaction with peers, leaders and internal customers
Based on the technical and professional responsibilities of the position, the Shop Manager is required to have:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 3 – 5 years’ experience in auto industry or auto school
- Previous managerial experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Valid driver’s license
- Knowledge of TMT, TTP and/or Shop Scheduler
- ASE training is a plus
- Possession of a Class A CDL is a plus
The Shop Manager is primarily located in both a climate-controlled office and heavy diesel shop environment with low, moderate and high noise levels depending on which job duties are being performed. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), outdoor weather conditions and extreme cold. The employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock and vibration. Physical requirements include:
- Using computer hardware and software for extended periods of time (repetitive motion)
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Must be on time for all scheduled shifts and work all scheduled days, proper notice and reason must be provided if unable to work any scheduled day
