What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Advisor position at Lewis and Clark Community College?

Scope of Position

The Academic Advisor is responsible for providing compassionate, student-centered career counseling and academic advising to current and prospective students.


Key Measurable Expectations (KMEs)


  • Maintain a caseload of prospective and returning students, providing respectful and responsible academic advising that empowers them to achieve educational goals for Associate Degree and Certificate programs. Ensure guidance on registration, graduation requirements, college policies and procedures, and transfer pathways reflects LC’s commitment to integrity and lifelong learning.
  • Introduce new students to the college through teaching MyLC, leading New Student Orientation, and providing campus tours that foster a welcoming, inclusive environment.
  • Participate in Transfer Resource Center activities within the Welcome Center, promoting student success.
  • Engage in general student recruitment activities (including study skills presentations, college and career nights, and community-based events) demonstrating LC’s dedication to service and respect for diverse learners.
  • Complete unofficial graduation checks with accuracy and integrity, ensuring students are informed and empowered to meet their academic milestones.
  • Maintain active and clear communication with academic divisions regarding programs and policies.
  • Articulate programs and transfer processes with four-year colleges/universities and attend articulation conferences, strengthening partnerships that expand opportunities for students in alignment with LC’s vision of accessibility and enrichment.
  • Advise students experiencing academic challenges, referring them to appropriate campus resources with compassion and respect to increase retention and success.
  • Maintain a computerized appointment calendar.
  • Perform registration/data entry activities using Self Service and Colleague systems, ensuring responsible and accurate record-keeping.
  • Assist High School Liaisons with testing, placement, and registration for partnership students, supporting LC’s mission to empower learners and prepare them for future achievement.


Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions


  • Bachelor’s Degree required, with two years’ work experience in a student service setting. Good computer, writing, and communication skills.
  • Availability to work flexible hours to meet student needs including evening hours on Tuesday and Wednesday and some weekends.


Team Members can expect to be paid a salary between $52,885 to $71,395, which includes an excellent benefits package. The salary will be based on a combination of relevant education, training, work experience, and skill competencies.
